Item description for The Lord Is My Shepherd: Why Do I Still Want? by Paul Plotkin...

The book of Psalms, throughout history, has formed the foundation of prayer liturgy for the great western religions of Judaism and Christianity. Perhaps this is because most of the books of the Bible, our Creator speaks to us, whereas in Psalms, we speak to him. The psalmists of old were men and women who experienced the joys, fears, anxieties, and tragedies of human experience. Somehow, no matter the challenge, they were able to find equilibrium through a connection with the Divine. In "The Lord is My Shepherd-Why Do I Still Want?." Rabbi Paul Plotkin captures the voices of the psalmists and amplifies them through stories that will inspire, guide, and comfort modern readers of all religious backgrounds.

Reviews - What do customers think about The Lord Is My Shepherd: Why Do I Still Want??

A Book On Life From The Voice Above  Mar 18, 2004
I have known Rabbi Plotkin for 20 years and heard many of his sermons. When I found out that he had written a book, I rushed to get it. In reading it, I can hear his voice telling the stories I have enjoyed listening to since I was a kid. Easy to read, easy to understand, and meaniful to anyone, this book is a great testament to the man who has served all his life. Even if you don't usually read religious books, read this one. It's fantastic and enjoyable.
This one you've got to read  Mar 1, 2004
Have you ever been down on your luck? Ever felt pain like none other? Where did YOU turn? Paul Plotkin turned to the Psalm. His experiences and stories through out his career are conveyed in this wonderful self help book.
Whether you are Jewish, Christian, Muslim or have any other belief, this book can help guide you through your troubles. Mr. Plotkin takes REAL life scenarios and stories and beautifully applies them to Psalm he has read over the years. His creative story telling opened my eyes to alternative ways of reading the psalms. I cannot thank him enough for writing this book.
The Lord Is My Shepherd: Why Do I Still Want?  Nov 9, 2003
This book is a must read for anyone who has suffered loss in their life. It is an invaluable guide to using the power of Psalms for healing the void. Rabbi Plotkin uses very personal stories to demonstrate how the book of Psalms contains ancient wisdom that is as relevant today as it was two thousand years ago.
Why Do I Still Want?  Jun 30, 2003
Rabbi Plotkin's wisdom and sensitivity come through in each chapter. Whether dealing with parents or children, sickness or health, marriage or divorce, the voice of the Psalmist filtered through the lens of Jewish tradition and practice offers comfort and consolation in an all too fragmented world. For those intimidated by the BIG questions or intrigued by them this book offers something for everyone. I cannot recommend it highly enough!
A feel Good Experience  Jun 29, 2003
I was restintant in reading the book as I thought it was religious writing. But my wife read it and strongly suggested I read it. She was right it was uplifting and gave me a great deal to think about. I continue to re-read it when I need that feel good thought to bring me through day. A delightfull read and now I highly recommend it to others.
