Reviews - What do customers think about Travel with William Carey: The missionary to India who attempted great things for God (Day One Travel Guides)?

Father of Modern Missions  Sep 9, 2009
Travel with William Carey: The Missionary to India Who Attempted Great Things for God by Paul Pease.

This is the first Travel With 'missionary personality' i have read - William Carey -the Father of Modern Missions; the others being revivalists.

What is great about this book (as is all the others in the series)is the photos and pictures of places connected with this great man of God, including the font where he was baptised(Christened), the churches he spoke at, pulpits he preached from and other places and personalities connected with his life.

I was impressed with the number of plaques that they include in the book (in the UK) which represented places connected with Carey and his relatives - the one on the Isle of Wight, denoting the house that the Carey's stayed in whilst awaiting to depart for India was somthing that i was formely unaware of.

In India, it took 7 year of labour at an indigo factory before full time missionary work could begin at Serampore, not far from Calcutta or to use modern spelling (non-colonal) Kalcutta.

A very impressive book about an outstanding man of God whose love for the lost in heathen nations led to the founding of the Baptist Mission Society which spurred the rest of Christendom to 'Go into all the world
and preach the gospel...'

What a wonderful way to write a biography!  Oct 12, 2008
I really wasn't sure what to expect from this book, since I enjoy traveling as well as biographies. This takes the best of both worlds and retells Carey's story as if you are visiting his life through the eyes of a docent in a living museum. It shows pictures of the then and now of the places he lived, retelling the highlights of his life; including significant artifacts from his life, as well as places that memorialized him. Carey was a key player in moving the gospel forward in India as well as igniting the fire in getting the missions movement to gain passion for those who had not heard outside of the Brittish kingdom. He was a brilliant man, and this was a wonderful way to present it. The full color presentation was an exceptional was to illustrate the journey. I will look for more in this series.

Highest praise.
