Reviews - What do customers think about The Chicago Healer (Lucas Stephens Series #1)?

The Chicago Healer Comes to Town.  Apr 20, 2005
A terrific page turner with believable characters and an incredible story...a refreshing and exciting novel that will leave you wanting more.

A refreshing story with thoughtful characterization.  Mar 14, 2005
The Chicago Healer is one of those novels which have been told with a deep passion and love for its characters. Paul Boge has crafted a refreshing story that will keep the reader hooked until the very end. I will not give much away other than it follows the life of a millionaire who is discovered by a unique gift. What follows is nothing short of incredible. It's a story that requires you to use your imagination, escape your own theological bubble and discover a unique story with imperfect characters worth rooting for. The book deals with religious themes and spirituality, but one would certainly be mistaken to suggest that this book is only for a specific audience. For example it's not a Christian novel only written for a Christian audience. Many Christians, in this case, would probably challenge the theology in the book anyway. However, the beauty of this story and its characters, is that they begin to realize and embrace the impossible, even if they don't understand it all. A very worthwhile read, no matter what walk of life you are from.

Thought provoking book on a touchy subject  Oct 16, 2004
This is the first published novel by Paul Boge and he has done an excellent job writing it. It is easy to see why he won "Best new Canadian author" with this work. It was one of those books that was hard to put down once you begin reading it. My only regret was that it was too short!
Lucas Stephens, the young pharmacuetical sales executive discovers he has the ability to miraculously heal others after spending time in a Chinese prison. After enduring unspeakable hardship and torture in prison he is finally released and returns to his home in Chicago where he attempts to pick up his life where it left off - including his job at Empirico the pharmacuetical giant. But life's not the same after prison in China. After teaming up with two unlikely people (an alcoholic ex-convict and a skeptical theologian from a local university), Lucas begins excercising his gift to help those in need of healing. With no real plan things start to get a little crazy as his fame spreads through Chicago. When news of the healings reaches his former employer - who is concerned about his all important profits - things begin to get a little dangerous too.
What Paul Boge managed to do with the characters in the book is make them real. They ask difficult questions, they mess up, their lives aren't perfect. The questions posed by the book are important for everyone. Does God still heal miraculously today? Why isn't everyone healed? Does the church fully understand its role in healings?
I highly recommend this thought provoking page-turner to anyone interested in supernatural healing.

Amazing Story, Amazing Author  Oct 13, 2004
The Chicago healer is an excellent book. It was one of those books that was hard to put down. It feels as though this book was written for real life. Paul Boge has captured what is real with The Chicago healer. I would encourage anyone and everyone to read the book. You will not be disappointed.
