Reviews - What do customers think about Like a Watered Garden?
I LOVE THESE BOOKS! Sep 7, 2008
I know nothing about gardening or flowers but LOVE these books! The main character is a self-employed widow, mother, daughter, sister, neighbor, and friend and the reader watches all of these areas of her life become challenged. Hill's characters and storylines are REAL. I love novels that end with the story coming full circle and a realization taking place. These books made me laugh out loud and cry silent tears, and those are the best kind! I could not put these books down. Mibby and her friends could be MY neighbors and friends!
Like a Watered Garden - Patti Hill Aug 19, 2006
It's hard to believe Like a Watered Garden is a first novel for Patti Hill. The author's writing is smooth and easy to read; her character's come alive. This first-time novel delves into the heartbreak of Mibby Garrett when her husband is killed in a bicycle accident. Lost without him, Mibby goes through the motions of living. But everywhere she turns she sees him--her young son, Kyle, looks just like him. At night, in bed, she cries into her pillow. When flowers arrive from her dead husband, Mibby plunges into a pit of despair. Only then does she accept the truth, she has to take charge of what is left of her life. Find out who and what gets Mibby back on course again.
I couldn't put this book down.

A New Favorite May 8, 2006
I recently discovered Patti Hill's books, and have added her to my shelf of honor as a favorite author. Warm, whimsical, and rich with creative word pictures, Hill uses language the way a master gardener uses plants. I fell in love with Mibby and rooted for her through the struggles and decisions she faced. Mibby won my heart again and again.
Like a Refreshing Drink of Water... Dec 6, 2005
I picked up this book after seeing it on the "recommended" shelf at the library. In truth, I wasn't expecting much from a first-time novelist. Author Patti Hill succeeded in blowing my expectations out of the water!
This was a lovely read. Within three or four chapters, I was hooked. The characters are well-developed, unpredictable, and fully human. I fell in love with Mibby, her son, Ky, and neighbor, Louise. Having been a widow myself, Mibby's story rang with the truth of grief, and the challenges of moving on.
Ms. Hill has a true gift for elegant composition, and vivid description. Gardeners, or would-be-green-thumbs, will love the way that nature is woven throughout the story line.
I smiled a lot while reading this book and the one that follows it. I also found myself stirred with righteous anger, bittersweet tears, and a few out and out belly laughs. When I finished "Like a Watered Garden," I immediately went to the book store and purchased a copy of my own. Like a precious friend, this is a book I will visit again.
