Item description for First Drop Of Rain (OP) by Leslie Parrott...
Overview Rain evokes for me all the mysteries of God?s presence (and seeming absences) on the landscape of my life.? Through personal stories, honest reflection, and original poetry written straight from her heart, Leslie Parrott shares her struggle to remain open to God?s revelations even (or especially) during the ?demands and chaos of life.
Publishers Description Have you ever felt plucked out and suddenly dropped by the hand of God into the wasteland? Have you felt desolate, dry, and fragile? No sign of God, no sound of water?' Here is the personal and passionate, 'Me too!' that fans of Leslie Parrott have been waiting for. For 'Seattlite' Parrott, rain isn't a date-canceling, mood-altering nuisance. Rather, that first drop of rain and the following drizzle or downpour is a persistent, positive, mystical fact of life that both confirms the presence of God and underscores his (seeming) absences. Through original poetry, vividly-drawn vignettes, and honest reflection, Parrott mixes images of rain and 'wasteland' to explore the daily juxtaposition of deluge and desert we all encounter. A conversation about grief and death takes place in lush gardens teeming with life. A prayer, delivered and answered at a dying friend's bedside, leads to bittersweet understanding. And personal confidences ('My flaws and fears are so real, they demand my full attention.') strike a chord in all of us who struggle earnestly, if sometimes defiantly, to see God's purpose in everything.

Married in 1984, the Parrotts bring real-life examples to their speaking platform. Their professional training – Leslie as a marriage and family therapist, and Les as a clinical psychologist – ensures a presentation that is grounded, insightful and cutting-edge.

The Governor of Oklahoma appointed the Parrotts as the first ever statewide Marriage Ambassadors. Authorities have called upon Les and Leslie to provide on-site support in the aftermath of worldwide disasters such as Ground Zero and Chernobyl. The Commander of the 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines, invited them to assist his soldiers with re-entry into family life upon returning from Iraq.
Part of Les and Leslie’s vision for building stronger, life-long marriages is to equip a band of more than a million marriage mentors who walk alongside less experienced couples. Research reveals that marriage mentoring is one of the best things we can do to cut the divorce rate and improve marriages – whether couples are engaged, newly married or married of decades.

Reviews - What do customers think about First Drop Of Rain (OP)?
lyrical styling without melodrama May 16, 2010
Excellent writing of a devotional. I really like this plain yet striking style that doesn't stoop to melodrama to move the reader.
Flooded May 15, 2010
This was a light-read, and yet a very personal memoir at the same time. In brief, vignette-style chapters, Leslie Parrott explores a seemingly endless selection of metaphors of rain/water/weather. The only other Parrott book I had read was "Saving Your Marriage Before It Starts (Inspirio/Zondervan Miniature Editions)" - which I read in my pre-marriage counseling! This certainly wasn't as deep or as instructional as that, but it was a nice little collection of devotional-type pieces.
A book that points you to God's presence when you are in the middle of loss and grief.... Apr 27, 2010
This is a book about some very personal losses and grief in Leslie Parrott's life. She shares her personal pain and how she turned to God in that pain. I appreciate her vulnerability and her openness. She is humble and brave. I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone who is hurting or grieving.
More evangelical brainwashing Apr 27, 2010
The sudden profusion of evangelical free Kindle books on this site is indicative of an organized strategy to convert the masses. This is just another of those books, which despite the beautiful language and imagery, is strictly for those with a biblical bent. The author seeks to combine poetry and literature with introspective musings on her faith and daily life, but it remains nonetheless a transparent attempt to use kindle to diffuse christian ideology.
