Don't Pack This Away with the Wreath Nov 6, 2006
Santa and the Christmas wreath may be seasonal, but the nativity story is not, and this brightly illustrated book will become a year-round favorite for young children. A mom and her two kids visiting the shepherd dad at work join him and a growing group of others following the star to Bethlehem. At the crèche, as the children offer a special doll and hand-made flute to the infant, "a whirling wind and silver sparks" dance in the sky and choirs of angels sing. Here the artist uses glistening silver for the swirly lines and curves that form the outline of angel faces. This gleaming effect is also used to represent the starlight in the sky and twinkling through the roof of the stable where the Baby Jesus lies.
