Item description for The Catholic Bible, Personal Study Edition: New American Bible by Oxford University Press...
One study Bible doesn't fit all, so Oxford publishes Catholic editions to suit the needs of new and seasoned Scripture students alike. The Personal Study Edition is ideal for the beginners, whether it's used within the context of the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults or other such parish-based scripture education programs. It provides a wealth of background information in a single volume that informs readers without overwhelming them. The Second Edition features all new callouts in the biblical text, a revised Reading Guide and enlarged section introductions and introductory essays on topics such as how to read the Bible. The Questions for Discussion that follow each book's section in the Reading Guide are newly revised and expanded. They focus on these themes: Group Sharing/Discussion, In Our Lives, and Individual/Personal Reflection/Action. In addition, there's a glossary to terms that may be unfamiliar to some readers, the Sunday and weekday lectionary readings, a select NAB concordance, and an indexed section of New Oxford Bible Maps.
* Marginal references in the biblical text that point to specific pages in the Reading Guide are screened for greater visibility * A 25-page glossary defines biblical terms with which students may not be familiar * A 36-page section of authoritative, full color New Oxford Bible Maps (with place name index)

Reviews - What do customers think about The Catholic Bible, Personal Study Edition: New American Bible?
Just Fine Dec 1, 2009
I was looking for a modern text with good explanations for a beginning Bible study class. This one is just fine, easy to read, with just enough commentary for beginner-to-middle experience in Bible reading. One negative is that the pages are on thin paper, but I'm doing all right with it overall.
EVERYTHING I EXPECTED Nov 20, 2009
I purchased this bible as i began taking RCIA classes, and it has so far completely satisfied me. It was different to get used to a study bible, but I easily figured it out, and really learn alot and enjoy this bible!
