Item description for An Easy Dig Thru "39 Ancient Sites" by Otto D. Batty...
Overview Filled with a hunger to encourage others to read and find the gems he found in Scripture, Batty presents this fast-paced, fun, and simple Bible study.
Publishers Description Otto D. Batty received most of his education from parochial schools. His first nine years were at Bethlehem Christian School in Kennewick, Washington, graduated from Concordia College-High School in Portland, Oregon in 1956. He received his A.A. degree from Columbia Basin College in Pasco, Washington in 1969, and B.A. degree in Education from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington in 1976. Otto majored in Social Studies with a strong emphasis in History. In 1961 while in Wyoming, Otto developed a great love for the Scripture. Over the years, he read 23 different translations and paraphrases of the Bible. He even read the Bible backwards from Revelation to Genesis. When asked why, he simply replied, "Just for fun." However, he wouldn't do it again or recommend it, saying "It was chronologically distracting." Otto has taught many Sunday School classes to both teenagers and adults. This work emerged out of those life experiences. The more Otto read the scripture the more he became excited about what he "discovered." It was quite a surprise to him to learn so many believers had never read the whole Bible through once. Filled with a hunger to encourage others to read and find the "gems" he found in the Scripture, in 1985 he wrote and taught this Bible Study with a twist. The emphasis is on "discovering the gems," not theology or doctrine. It is fast paced, fun, and simple. Its primary purpose; to encourage believers to apply Romans 10:17, "faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God."

Digging Up Treasures in the Best-Selling Book of All Time Aug 24, 2008
"An Easy Dig Thru "39 Ancient Sites" revolutionized my understanding and interest in the Old Testament. Otto's enthusiastic, joyful and seasoned teaching uncovered hidden gems and treasures that stimulated my curiosity. This book and student workbook have renewed my interest in reading the Bible. I highly recommend this study for personal growth, christian education, and Bible Study groups for all ages. It could be a defining moment in a life changing journey. It has been for me.
Phenomenal Insight but EASY to understand the content Aug 22, 2008
Let's face it, the Old Testament is boring to read. Yet new Christians don't know they should start with the New Testament. They generally start with Genesis. In the beginning.... All I can say is that when I do my devotions, I have this book near me. Having been a Christian for 37 years, I have learned so much more having a historical timeline side by side with my Bible. To top it off, there are hidden gems or treasures if you will that add intrigue to your studies. So many times as I have been in my studies new things come to light. A definite must have in EVERY Christian's library with extras to hand out to new Christians along the way. For example, I gave one to my hair dresser who passed it to her Bishop and now her church is using it for Bible study. For $20 bucks, how can it NOT be an investment of the heart, mind, and soul!
Best Material Aug 19, 2008
As a pastor we have found "An Easy Dig thru 39 Ancient Sites" to be one of the best materials for drawing people into a love for the Old Testament. I think every Sunday School class could benefit from it. Home groups would find that their new believers as well as season saints could journey in these truths. Don't wait add this tool to your church discipleship process!
Great Book! Aug 19, 2008
I am always leery about books changing the bible. THAT IS NOT THE CASE HERE. I was skeptical at first, but was amazed how fast I was hooked.
Nothing is like reading though the whole bible word for word, but for those that want a quick review of the bible's Gems, with a side by side history review, this is Awesome! Otto has a way of condensing the book down for a quick read while bringing out the secrets held there. I felt like I was watching the Discovery Channel, while I was reading. You won't be let down by getting this book. I studied it alongside my bible. I was amazed how many times I tried to prove him wrong but, was myself, wrong.
First example of proving me wrong: birds???
How many types of clean and unclean animals did Noah take into the Ark? Obviously, seven pair of clean and two pair of unclean...AND...seven pair of clean AND unclean birds. Ask anyone, I bet they won't know the "bird" part of that story. I hope all you find it as fun and amazingly interesting to read as I did. Frank in Seattle
The Finest and Best introductory to the Old Testament Apr 24, 2008
A great characteristic of this book is copying the Bible format. Each book is complete in itself - a reader can begin reading or studying in any book. This study does not focus on doctrine or theology but rather on the obvious. The book stimulates curiostiy and guides the reader into great discoveries - like "hidden gems and treasurs" in Scripture.
Other good features are: it reveals little known facts about people, events and places in the Bible - it has old learned sayings, sayings not found in the Bible, which enhance the learning - and one can go to the books Web Site ([..]) an preview the book before purchasing.
