best purchase possible Jan 14, 2008
Best purchase possible, for a Hebrew English Siddur, if you are looking for both quality translation and commentary.
Perfect! Sep 27, 2007
An invaluable source for the most common prayers used in the Jewish faith both Sephardic and Ashkenazic, with distinction and references delineating which is which. Organized in the flow of the daily observances, it is exceedingly simple to follow along and the facing English-Hebrew pages make cross-referencing a snap for those trying to learn the language. I highly recommend this book for both the curious and dedicated.
A necessary basic Aug 16, 2007
If like me, you are looking to create a meaningful spiritual practice, with Judaism at its core, this siddur is a place to get started. You don't have to have a traditional background (I don't) or want one now, (I don't). But this suddur is a gateway to open up to a spiritual connection. And on a practical note, its compact, easy to travel with and carry around, sturdy, with lots of notes and explanations. The print, while small, is clear, dark (on opaque pages) and easy to read. Its got a table of contents so you can find what you need easily.
It is not the end all and be all, there are other siddurs to add to your collection. But its a basic, and a good place to start the journey.
The best siddur for the newly religious Dec 5, 2006
The complete Artscroll Siddur is brilliant for the newly religious. It has parrallel translation on the left hand page and hebrew on the right with instructions for prayer in english on both sides, guiding the reader as he learns how to pray and eventually prays without any guides. The complete siddur includes Shabbat and weekday prayers as well as Shabbat dinner and all the minor and major holidays as well as everything else such as Rosh Chodesh that one may com across in Judaism. It is not a Machzor but it is very helpful. Seth J. Frantzman
Artscroll paperback Siddur: Possibly NOT for your eyes only ! Jun 11, 2006
I give it 5 stars for being "complete" (i.e., The idea of having services for every holiday and every day of the week in one volume is wonderful). Ultimately, however, I give it 2 stars because: This paperback edition is totally useless to me. If you need reading glasses and are thinking of ordering The COMPLETE ARTSCROLL SIDDUR (paperback edition), make sure to visit your eye doctor and get those bifocals before this book arrives! The description of this ARTSCROLL edition uses words like "clear"...and "crisp type..."... but it is only clear and crisp if you can read miniature words or you have young eyes that haven't gone through "the change" yet!
