Community Description
This is an exciting adventure story for children aged 10 years and upwards. It is set in Victorian London, at the time when the Seventh Earl of Shaftesbury, Anthony Ashley Cooper, moved by his Christian convictions, entered Parliament to tackle many of the social ills of the time.

In particular, he was so concerned about the starving, homeless street children who were being exploited by gangs of thieves, that he started what became known as the 'Ragged Schools'.

Sam is a street orphan whose eventful life is changed after he is rescued by Lord Shaftesbury, placed in a Ragged School, and subsequently taught, not only a trade, but the message of salvation in Jesus. Through his many varied and dangerous adventures he also learns the love of a Heavenly Father and the power of prayer.

This shocking, but finally triumphant, story will hold the attention of children while informing them of a time in our history so different from their own.
