Reviews - What do customers think about The Ultimate Plan: A Financial Survival Guide for Life's Unexpected Events?
We all need a plan Feb 3, 2010
This book was a wake up call for people to not only get their financial house in order but to take action. I found it informative and also easy to read, you don't need a Ph.D in Finance or Economics to follow what she is saying. There is an urgency when disaster strikes to take action and Nicole B. Simpson takes the approach of stressing the importance of being proactive and not reactive. She is kind enough to be transparent about her own life experience as a 9/11 survivor which she uses to paint a vivid picture of why a plan is necessary and how you can't plan unexpected events but you can prepare yourself financially for them. She gives you the basis for taking control through planning for the things we don't have control over like death, disability, loss of income, accidents etc. Measuring points are provided as a prompt to applying the information she gives each chapter.
I enjoyed it.
Do You Have A Plan Jul 21, 2009
It is no doubt most of us are really poor financial planners. In fact, it appears we would rather have someone else do it for us or ignore it altogether. Certified Financial Planner, Nicole B. Simpson wants to change the way we look at planning for some of life's unpleasant and unexpected challenges. In THE ULTIMATE PLAN: A Financial Survival Guide for Life's Unexpected Events, she uses her experience as a 9/11 survivor to get readers to really take a look at the tough things in life to deal with.
This wife and mother of two was forced to ask the tough questions after a brush with death during the 9/11 disaster. She asked questions like, could her spouse survive financially if something happened to her? Who would care for her children? In the event of a disability for either her or her spouse, would there be enough money coming in for the family to survive? Was there enough insurance coverage? These are all questions we should ask, but fail to get the answers. In other words we fail to plan for inevitable emergencies like death, or potential ones like unemployment and disability. Ms. Simpson, in short order, walks you through her testimony, the questions you should be asking and getting the answers.
THE ULTIMATE PLAN is a handy book on financial planning to help guide one through the maze of establishing a detailed plan of survival. Everything is in simple to understand layman's terms and very easy to digest. She writes in a conversational style similar to talking to dear friends. The size of this book makes it an ideal book to be carried in your purse for quick reference. No one can go wrong with THE ULTIMATE PLAN.

With over 16 years experience in the securities industry as a Certified Financial Planner and Senior Advisor, Nicole Simpson, wife and mother of two children, was working on the seventy-third floor in the World Trade Center, building two, on the morning of September 11, 2001. "I had come into my office and laid my briefcase down. I was preparing to speak to one of the interns from the teamÖthat's when Tower One was hit," says Nicole in her second tome, The Ultimate Plan: A Financial Survival Guide for Life's Unexpected Events. Unlike the thousands of individuals who lost their life, Nicole safely escaped that catastrophe by a hair's breadth. What if? What would have happened, if I had not survived? What if I were permanently disabled? What was the state of my household? Did I have a plan in place? All those questions popped into Nicole's head several days after her near death experience.
Nicole and her family were considered middle class. They lived in a nice house, in a nice neighborhood. But their home was not paid in full. She and her husband relied on each other's income to maintain their standard of living. "If I had not survived, would my husband have to worry about how the bills were going to be paid the following month? Better yet, could he lose the house because he can no longer afford to meet the monthly mortgage payments? Would my family have to suffer emotionally with losing a wife and mother and simultaneously be subject to moving back to the very same neighborhood we worked so hard to get out of? Did I have insurance in place? Did I have emergency cash set aside?" Fortunate for the Simpson's, a plan was in place. What about you? Do you have a plan in place when the unexpected occurs?
The Ultimate Plan is an updated version of Nicole's first book, Planning for a Reason, a Season, and a Lifetime. Her basis for writing the above mentioned books was a result of her 9/11 experience. In The Ultimate Plan, Nicole's focal point is disaster planning. "As an international celebrity who acquired significant financial gain as a teenager, I was ill-prepared and without a plan of action to position myself financially for the future," says Pamela Longóformer member of the platinum selling R&B group, Totalóon Nicole's website. "The Ultimate Plan has provided me with the necessary tools to strategically recover from past mistakes and move forward successfully in every area of my life."
The Ultimate Plan is an insightful road map full of the necessary information for those interested in getting their financial life on point before a disaster strikes.
What did you like best about this book? The invaluable lessons on financial planning.
What did you dislike about this book? The table of contents was carelessly done. It is totally out of order. For example, the table of contents has the Estate Planning chapter beginning on page 115; however, the Estate Planning chapter begins on page 103, the Revelation chapter begins on page 115, but the table of contents shows that it begins on page 131. This type of screw up is unacceptable in a published book, especially a revised edition.
How can the author improve this book? Proof read, proof read, proof read!!!
