Reviews - What do customers think about NKJV Classic Companion-Black Bond S/S?
NKJV vs Amazon's Version Jan 2, 2010
I am using "Kindle for PC" and really enjoy having my whole library with me as I travel. I was happy to be able to buy the Bible, download, and read anytime without being on the internet.
This NKJV is great for reading, but not really for research. The navigation issues mentioned in other reviews makes it easy to get lost. This was especially true when I was reading from the iPod Touch.
There are also many places where words are missing or turned around incorrectly. For example:
Ephesians 6:10 Kindle Version: Finally, my brethren, be strong in the and in the power of His might.
Hard Copy NKJV: Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.
This is a major omission of the central theme of the Bible.
I have given this book, the Bible 5 stars for the book, not for this sites version of the book.
Recently Updated in October 2009!!!!!! Oct 6, 2009
This NKJV for the Kindle was recently updated in October 2009 to fix some of the formatting issues present in the previous version as well as enabling chapter navigation. One word of caution regarding chapter navigation is that it works very well for me with the Old Testament but not so well with the New Testament (would take too long to explain). At any rate, I use this Kindle version as my daily reader and use 4 book marks to pick up where I last left off: 1. In the Old Testament 2. Book of Psalms. 3. Book of Proverbs. 4. New Testament.
When I need to study something in depth, I either go to [...] or pull out one of my leather bound Bibles.
Don't at all be afraid to get this bible if you are going to use it as your daily reader. Again, not so good for in depth bible study unless you get really, really good at using the kindle's search feature.
If you need a kindle Bible with better chapter navigation...get this KJV: Holy Bible - The Illustrated King James Bible (King James Version, KJV): The Old & New Testaments, Deuterocanonical literature, Glossary and Suggested Reading. Illustrated by Gustave Dore
Read this review before purchasing! Aug 15, 2009
Ok....here's the low down on the Kindle version of this Bible.
1. There is no chapter navigation. If you are someone looking for a study Bible and need chapter navigation, then this Bible is not for you. It does have book navigation, so you can get in the vicinity of where you are searching.
2. This is a great version of the Bible, and unfortunately it is only one available on the Kindle. I am waiting for another publisher to get on the ball and release one to this site. If you need this version of the Bible, then you are stuck.
3. It is perfect for either reading the Bible straight through or a particular book of the Bible straight through. I am using it for my daily reading Bible. Once again, if chapter and verse navigation are important to you, then stay away! This is a reading Bible.
I hope this helped!
Good for reading - not for searching Jul 25, 2009
I bought this through whispernet - in a hurry at the airport, with no opportunity to check online opinions. Had I done that, I would not have bought this edition. I like the NKJV, for reading and studying, but as others have mentioned, getting to a specific chapter and verse is painful. The 5-star reviewer wrote "just search for Psalm 100" - unfortunately, that's only true for the Psalms. When I was trying to get to Isaiah 66, I thought I'd start at Jeremiah and try the "prev" page button instead, but I got pages of footnotes to go back through before getting there.
For straight reading, this is fine; but if you're looking for something equivalent to flipping through your Bible for specific texts (for example during a sermon) don't buy this.
Bad even for the Kindle 2 Jul 11, 2009
This version is still very bad even for the Kindle 2. As one reviewer stated, you can search on Psalm 100 and get there. This is true. That is because each psalm starts out with the words "Psalm" followed by the chapter number. Unfortunately, this is the only book that I tried to search on where that actually worked. The other book with chapter searches did not work, and I tried many of them. This is because the other books don't have the name of the book printed anywhere except above chapter 1. For example, if you were to search on Isaiah 50 as mentioned by another viewer you will get zero results.
This wouldn't normally be an issue if your were reading a novel or most anything else, but many readers of the Bible are continually jumping between different books and chapters whether it be on a Sunday morning while the pastor is teaching or a personal bible study. Imagine having an opportunity to witness to somebody and you have to spend several minutes flipping through hundreds of digital pages to get to the chapter and verse you are after. The absence of chapter navigation is really a critical shortcoming in my opinion.
I also noticed quite a few places where words were not separated "likethey" should be.
The New King James version is my favourite translation to read. I really wish they would have done a better job with this.
