Item description for Healing Waters (Sullivan Crisp #2) by Nancy Rue & Stephen Arterburn...

Overview
Lucia has always lived in the shadow of her sister, a charismatic ministry leader with a huge following. As her self-esteem and self-worth plummet, Lucia longs for the faith to walk on water. With the endlessly creative ways God uses people to bring hope and new life, Lucia just might find the path that leads her there.

Publishers Description

When life seems to conspire against you, how do you find the courage to dive into "Healing Waters"?

When Lucia Coffey looks at her reflection, she sees fat and failure. When she looks at her sister Sonia, she sees svelte and success. When she looks at God, she sees that divine love can't possibly be doled out equally. All her life, Lucia has coped by throwing herself into taking care of those who seem more worthy of God's goods, and feeding the dreams she has buried alive.

But when tragedy strikes Lucia's family, she meets Sullivan Crisp--a decidedly offbeat psychologist who is trying to cope with his own shattered past. They form an alliance to try to hold her family together and, in the process, both tentatively dip their toes into the waters of healing. Step by faltering step they wade in, forging an unlikely community and digging deep for the courage to face a lurking danger that could pull them under . . . or remind them what it's like to dance on the waves.

From Publishers Weekly
Evangelical Christian writing duo Rue and Arterburn collaborate again in this follow-up to Healing Stones, the first of many (one hopes) Sullivan Crisp novels. Therapist Crisp re-emerges in this second outing after a stint of therapy he himself undergoes as he grapples with his faith following his wife's suicide and their baby girl's death. Enter the less-than-doted-on obstetrics nurse Lucia Coffey, who is battling her weight, her drug abuser husband and her famous televangelist, miracle-healing sister, Sophia. When Sophia's private plane bursts into flames and her face is burned beyond recognition, Lucia, with all her acumen and saucy wit, takes on the task of tending to her injured sister. What happens during the healing process is both tender and tragic, and psychologist Crisp is dead center in the middle of all the action. This well-written tale will move and engage readers in its volatile mix of questionable religious healing claims and the real dealinner restoration of the soul. (Dec.) Reviews - What do customers think about Healing Waters?

Not for the squeamish  Mar 5, 2010
Maybe I'm the only person who has a hyper-sensitivity to burned human beings, but if you happen to have such a traumatic experience in your past, skip this book. I loved Sullivan Crisp's character in the first of the "Healing" series, but this one used so vivid a language I felt ill in my stomach and had to discontinue reading.

WONDERFUL  Feb 1, 2010
This was an amazing story. From the beginning the story jumps right in and grabs you...such a wonderful storyline all throughout the middle...and the ending...oh the ending...don't want to ruin anything...

Insightful and Entertaining  Jan 21, 2010
Lucia, struggling with her weight, her marriage, and extended family issues, covers up her pain by bingeing and taking responsibility for everyone elses problems. Her older beautiful, talented sister is the charismatic leader of Abundant Life Ministries, a popular TV ministry, but all is not as it seems. When a horrible event occurs, both women must face their personal hurts square on. Sullivan Crisp, a quirky but caring Christian counselor enters the scene; he, however, has his own demons to battle.

The characters in this book are well developed and the plot moves along. There are enough subplots to keep the reader wondering what is going to happen and how everything will come together in the end.

If you enjoy contemporary fiction with a touch of humor and great insight into the human condition and how God uses others to help heal us, you will enjoy Healing Waters. This book follows Healing Stones, and is the second book in a new series by Nancy Rue and Stephen Arterburn.

Im looking forward to reading the recently released Healing Sands very soon!

I'll never feel the same about candy bars again.  Nov 3, 2009

At first I thought Healing Waters: Sullivan Crisp Series #2 (Women of Faith Fiction) (2009 Novel of the Year) was a romance novel. It began with a woman who had faced many problems and a man who had faced his own set of problems. It is a combination of mystery and psychological journey.

At first it was difficult to begin reading. Then I realized that her story was being told in first person and his story was being told in third person. She didn't know his story but he knew hers. Aha!It must be primarily her story while his story is secondary.

Having started a weight loss program I found the woman's eating disorder interesting. When I was hungry, I would read a chapter.

Eventually I became intrigued by the plot. It is one of those books in which the reader knows what is going on long before the characters do. The dramatic irony drives the story along. I found myself thinking, "When will the characters figure out what is happening?" Seeking the answer to that question kept me reading. I became so interested that I couldn't put it down.

Some people may find it unrealistic, but life is that way. Many of us have had situations within our families and marriages that seem as unbelievable as this story.

I enjoyed HEALING WATERS and recommend it.

Christian Fiction  Sep 24, 2009
Nice story with a good message and no in-your-face "raw". Unique storyline keeps the reader engaged and which I am happy to recommend to any fan of Christian Fiction.
