Item description for Sheep Take a Hike by Nancy Shaw & Margot Apple...
Overview The fun-loving, rambunctious flock from Sheep in a Jeep returns for a new adventure on the rugged terrain, in a story with familiar short rhymes and rollicking rhythms ideal for very young readers. Reprint.
That fun flock is raring for a rugged hiking adventure. Rapid rhythm, rhyme, and colorful illustrations make this a perfect introduction to poetry.
From Publishers Weekly This adventure lacks the comic fullness of the best of Shaw and Apple's work,
said PW, but the light verse "is as snappy as ever" and the sheep's facial
expressions remain "delightfully emotive." Ages 2-6. (Aug.)

Sheep Take a Hike Aug 11, 2007
Great series for reading to now and reading alone later. Good basic rhyming vocabulary and charming sheep illustrations.
Cute, but dissapointing Jun 11, 2007
Being avid hikers, we just HAD to buy this book after our Son fell in love with Sheep in a Jeep. Unfortunately, other than the general theme of misadventures of a group of kind spirited sheep friends...they had little in common. The rhyming scheme is loose and my son shows little interest in this book. I still plan to check out others of "the Sheep" series.

Good Choice Oct 4, 2003
The jeep series illustrations are always fabulous but the text doesn't quite live up to Sheep in a Jeep. It's still worth getting. I just wish it came as a board book.
Humorous and realistic story about a group hike Aug 20, 2003
This book is a hit with the 3-year-old I gave it to and with me. The rhymes are delightful, and the story describes the kinds of adventures and challenges that make hiking fun: route finding, weather, soggy snacks, group dynamics. It's a great way to prepare a child for what hiking involves
