Some Good, Some Not So Good ... Mar 4, 2007
On the positive side: 1. This book can be slipped into your purse to take along for those "waiting moments" (doctor's offices etc.) 2. The photographs are beautiful and I liked that they showed grandmothers of various ages as well as grandchildren of various ages. 3. God's Word is the focal point of each page. 4. A nice ribbon for marking your place and the book seems to be bound nicely 5. This would be a nice gift for anyone
On the negative side: 1. Most grandmothers I know prefer the large type. This book could be difficult to read, also the backgrounds of some pages give less contrast between page and type color.
If type size and contrast is not an issue for you or the recipient, then it is a good book and a great gift.
Devotional that sticks to the Word of God Sep 8, 2006
Do you have a friend who's about to become a grandmother? Maybe you are a grandma who would like some guidance on praying for your family. Or perhaps you want to let your mom know she's about to become a grammie. A Grandmother's Guide to Praying for her Family by Nancy Yaeger may meet your needs.
Yaeger's lovely little devotional gift book features over 200 devotionals for grandmothers on feminine pastel pages. Each devotional includes Scripture from one of several translations, an application, and a short prayer. Some of the pages contain photographs of grandmothers from various racial and ethnic backgrounds with their families. A pink ribbon helps the reader keep her place. Yaeger supplements the devotional with a "Godly Character and Virtues Index" and a Scripture index at the back.
What sets Yaeger's devotional book apart is some of her choices for devotionals. She gives not only the expected devotional subjects but ones such as not taking the Lord's name in vain and the importance of endurance. I appreciated her stance on the authority of the Scripture. Her applications stick to the Word of God. She avoids smarminess, feel-goodism, and triteness. The devotionals are warm, yet crisp, and right to the point.
Almost any Christian grandmother would enjoy this attractive little book from the new grandmother to the great-grandmother to the hopeful grandmother-to-be. - Debbie W. Wilson, Christian Book Previews.com
A wonderful gift! Jul 3, 2006
Nancy Yaeger, author of A Mother's Prayers for Her Children has filled a need with her new title, A Grandmother's Guide to Praying for Her Family.
I rarely leave the house without a book because there are always opportunities while waiting in line at the grocery store, doctor's office, bank, etc. And I don't want to waste my valuable time, so I read. Yaeger's book is the perfect size to fit into my purse where I can reach for it and use it as a guide to pray for my loved ones during those quiet times.
Yaeger's book covers a wide variety of concerns we grandmothers think about when contemplating the lives of our loved ones. Her prayers can be a starting point or the prayer itself. Also included is a short devotional accompanied by a Scripture verse.
It doesn't matter whether you start or end your day in prayer, or whisper the words at the grocery store, Yaeger's book is an encouragement to pray without ceasing. The words are food and fuel for your loved ones.
Armchair Interviews says: A Grandmother's Guide to Praying for Her Family is the perfect gift for the busy grandmother in your life.
