More About Andrew Murray & Paul Eggington

Andrew Murray South African pastor and author Andrew Murray (1828 1917)was an amazingly prolific writer. Murray began writing on the Christian life for his congregation as an extension of his local pastoral work, but he became internationally known for his books, such as With Christ in the School of Prayer and Abide in Christ, that searched men's hearts and brought them into a deeper relationship with Christ. With intense purpose and zeal for the message of the gospel, Murray wrote numerous books even after his "retirement" at age seventy-eight.

Andrew Murray was the second child of Andrew Murray Sr. (1794–1866), a Dutch Reformed Church missionary sent from Scotland to South Africa. Andrew Murray was born in Graaff Reinet, South Africa.

Andrew was sent to Aberdeen in Scotland for his initial education together with his elder brother, John. Both remained there until they obtained their master's degrees in 1845. From there, they both went to the University of Utrecht where they studied theology. The two brothers became members of Het Réveil, a religious revival movement opposed to the rationalism which was in vogue in the Netherlands at that time. Both brothers were ordained by the Hague Committee of the Dutch Reformed Church on 9 May 1848 and returned to the Cape.

Murray married Emma Rutherford in Cape Town, South Africa, on 2 July 1856. They had eight children together (four boys and four girls). Religious work in South Africa.

Andrew pastored churches in Bloemfontein, Worcester, Cape Town and Wellington, all in South Africa. He was a champion of the South African Revival of 1860.

In 1889, he was one of the founders of the South African General Mission (SAGM), along with Martha Osborn and Spencer Walton. After Martha Osborn married George Howe, they formed the South East Africa General Mission (SEAGM) in 1891. SAGM and SEAGM merged in 1894. Because its ministry had spread into other African countries, the mission's name was changed to Africa Evangelical Fellowship (AEF) in 1965. AEF joined with SIM in 1998 and continues to this day.

Andrew Murray was born in 1828 and died in 1917.

Reviews - What do customers think about With Christ in the School of Prayer - MP3 (Devotional Classics)?

Big Disappointment  Oct 2, 2008
This book was a big disappointment. While it is of some value in regards to prayer, the author seems to have no ability to rightly divide the Word. He claims promises made to Israel as true for the church today. Also, the author is totally in the dark about the mystery (secret) that Paul revealed in his epistles.
Christ in the Scool of Prayer  Sep 24, 2008
this is a classic. Tho written in the early 1800's the priniciples apply and if followed, will deepen anyone's relationship with Jesus.
With christ In the School of Prayer  Jul 10, 2008
I loved this book. Andrew Murray is a prolific writer and I learn so much from his books. The format of this book is lesson by lesson, step by step. He leads his readers into a complete understanding of the Holy Spirit and how important he is in our life. The Holy Spirit is our teacher, our comforter, our guide into our walk with truth. This book helps us get beyond the surface of religious attitude and deeper into living and loving our walk with GOD. He shows us how to deepen our knowing of GOD and our directly communicating with him giving us a relationship with our Father, our Savior, and with Jesus' and GOD's Spirit that lives within us. I give this book a 5 star review and believe every Christian needs to read and uses these lessons to enrich our closeness with GOD.
Somewhat overrated, perhaps  Mar 13, 2008
Perhaps if I knew the life story behind the author I cold rate this book higher. He authored over 240 books and in this one he takes a very authoritative tone. Yet he cites not a single example, from personal experience, to back up his bold claims about the power of prayer. If, in the course of time, I come to learn that Murray actually realized in his own life the power of prayer he insists is available to every believer, I will come back and revise my ranking for this work.
A Much Loved Classic  Jun 28, 2007
"With Christ in the School of Prayer ..." is a wonderful classic to read and enjoy.

Don't let the second part of the title put you off ... this is a book for everyone. Really.
