Reviews - What do customers think about Moody Science Classics: Voice of the Deep (DVD)?
Fascinating science dvds Feb 5, 2010
My children love these videos. Although they are just 7 and 9 years old, they learn something everytime they watch any of them - and so do I! These videos have a great way of presenting the amazing wonders of nature and God's handywork all around us. I purchased the 19 DVD set Moody Science Classics: 19-DVD Set to save money over buying them individually, and it was well worth it!!!
Boring... Dec 21, 2009
good information on this DVD, but I have to be honest, we popped it out before it was over. It was just way too boring! I didn't realize when I ordered it that it was made way back in the 1950's.
Interesting look at sounds of sea world, nice spiritual lesson, so-so cinematography Dec 9, 2009
This is a Moody Science Classic, filmed in the 1950s. It's a fascinating look at the sounds of the sea world that man once thought to be silent, after all he heard nothing when swimming underwater. But, with the use of a hydrophone (underwater microphone), it was discovered that their was a whole world of sound that man's ears simply weren't equipped to hear. We hear all sorts of interesting noises from all sorts of sea creatures. There's also a demonstration of dolphins ability to use sonar (sound waves) to navigate even when their eyes are covered.
At the end, the point is made that man didn't hear anything and so assumed there was nothing to be heard, but was wrong. And many men say that they don't see anything of the spiritual world and so assume that God doesn't exist, but they are wrong as well. The hydrophone proved the first to be true, and God's Word is a tool used by God to prove the latter. This was a relatively smoothly integrated spiritual lesson.
Unfortunately, cinematography has come a long way in 50 years. That wasn't as big a deal in most of these classic DVDs, but apparently there have been HUGE advances in filming underwater. The picture quality is just poor compared to what can be done today. However, with the great science info and the spiritual lesson, I'd rate this DVD 3.5 stars, which I'm rounding up to 4.
