Item description for From Hope to Higher Ground: 12 STEPS to Restoring America's Greatness by Mike Huckabee...
Overview Mike Huckabee has an optimistic vision for what America can become with the right kind of leadership, a clear direction, and a people who are willing to believe that the World War II generation doesn't have to be the last "greatest generation." As Governor of Arkansas, Mike Huckabee made remarkable and innovative changes. His ARKids First program led the nation in reducing the number of children without health care; his boat tour campaign helped pass an amendment to support conservation of Arkansas' vast natural parks, lakes, and rivers; and his Healthy Arkansas initiative, which gives incentives for people to make positive lifestyle changes, has been expanded into the national Healthy America initiative.
Now Governor Huckabee presents his prescription for America in the form of the twelve key things we need to STOP doing in order to become a stronger nation. Covering a range of controversial issues, Huckabee speaks out on: immigration and the shifts in America's job market the rising financial (and personal) costs of health care issues the need for music and the arts as part of our children's core education the mishandling of taxes. Having gone from the small town of Hope, Arkansas, to being chairman of the National Governors Association and influencing national policy, Mike Huckabee supports the American spirit of opportunity for all and believes every American can go From Hope to Higher Ground.

How you and I -- not just Mike -- can make a difference Mar 29, 2008
I bought this book thinking it would be Mike Huckabee's plan for improving the United States from his position in political leadership. While he does touch on things he has done as governor of Arkansas, this book is moreso about what you, me, and everyone can do to make a difference.
As Huckabee explains, maybe you can't personally cause peace in the Middle East, or maybe you personally can't eliminate the U.S. national debt, but there are all sorts of things that you can do to make your life better, and the lives of those around you.
A great read, and worth reading frequently.
Great Hope from a Great Man! Feb 22, 2008
I ordered this book as part of my research into whom I should vote for in the presidential primaries. I was already impressed with Huckabee's ethics and stage presence, but didn't know much about the facts during is 10 1/2 year term as Governor. In each 12 Stops, he shares his beliefs and how he has upheld those beliefs his entire life. He has not changed his opinions with the wind, but has stood firmly in his convictions. A great read for more insight into this man who many have dismissed!
From Hope to Higher Ground Jan 26, 2008
I am a strong supporter of Mikes, The book started very well for me and was an inspirational read. I felt I could relate allot of his younger days like the iron on patches on the pants, I hated those as a kid. But I really got a sour taste when reading the immigration chapter. I got the impression that he was strong on enforcing our laws on immigration and like his plan on his web page, His book shows a much different approach. I got the impression that he felt allot of peoples anger and passion on this subject was from racism, I disagree with that path of thinking. I will still Vote for this man as he represents our country better than any other candidate. I truly hope he has opened his mind and changed his view since the book was written. I am not a Christian and I will vote for mike. The book was good but it felt allot like a commercial.
America, listen to this man! Jan 23, 2008
Having already read Huckabee's book, "Character Makes a Difference," I knew that the governor was a good writer. However I wasn't prepared for the depth of his political insights and breadth of governmental acumen. He can both talk the talk and walk the walk. He has measurably helped his own state, and it looks to me like he could help the whole country.
What a concept! A politician with integrity and humility. I hope we get to vote for him in the fall. You don't have to agree with everything he says, but it would make real good sense to listen to everything he says. He has been there and done that and in a difficult and unfriendly setting.
I'm on the bandwagon!
Another Self Promotinal Book! Jan 8, 2008
This book should be avoided! What a waste of time. I read two of his books and found them both self-promoting and factually innacurate!
Politicians who write books touting themselves are really ridiculous!
