Publishers Description How powerful is integrity? Just ask minister-turned-statesman, Mike Huckabee. As lieutenant governor of Arkansas in 1996, he was publicly cast between the ultimate rock and hard place when his boss, governor Jim Guy Tucker, refused to resign despite his felony convictions in the Whitewater scandal. Holding fast to the tenets of honor and faith, and his concern over what was best for the state's people, Huckabee led the impeachment charge against his superior before a televised audience. That same day, Tucker resigned, and Huckabee would serve as governor of Arkansas until 2007, winning many national honors along the way. "Character Makes a Difference" is Mike Huckabee's biographical account of how he handled that potentially major constitutional crisis and why he believes character is the key issue in everyone's life, "in the work you do, the candidates you vote for, the people who look to you for leadership."

From 1996-2007, Huckabee served as the 44th Governor of Arkansas and was a nationally recognized leader; honored by several renowned publications and organizations for his accomplishments. A significant part of his early adult life was spent as a pastor and denominational leader. He became the youngest president ever of the Arkansas Southern Baptist State Convention, the largest denomination in Arkansas. Huckabee led rapidly growing congregations in Pine Bluff and Texarkana. He said those experiences gave him a deep sense of the problems faced by individuals and families.
Huckabee's efforts to improve his own health have received national attention. Diagnosed with Type II diabetes in 2003, he lost 110 pounds. Reviews - What do customers think about Character Makes A Difference?
History Repeats Itself Jun 28, 2009
This is America's eleventh hour! Our democracy is morally, politically, and economically bankrupt.
I suggest we stop hiding behind "trashy best-sellers" and pore over Mike Huckabee's book. If for no other reason, at least to grasp a sense of ominous reality and sobering history.
As a former Cuban refugee (50 years ago) I see so many similarities between my former country before Castro's revolution and the US today, that sometimes I think I'm re-living a nightmare.

Uplifting and Real Dec 25, 2008
It amazes me to think that last year I knew little to nothing about the former Governor of Arkansas. Then out of nowhere he steps onto the political scene to endear us with his thoughts. His stories are full of cheer and heartwarming considerations applicable to all of us. My first thoughts about buying his book was that he would be another political hack similar to others we have grown to know and yes even elect. These words are from a man who has far more depth than I would have thought. You might describe him in several different ways but one word that stands out above all the others is Character. He has it in abundance. I'll permit your reading his words first and see if you feel the same.
Slow moving and predictable book Dec 2, 2008
As much as I "adore" Mike this is a slow moving book with predictable story lines. Unless you live in Arkansas, there is not much of interest in these stories.
Character Nov 18, 2008
While I don't agree with Mike Huckabee politically 100% of the time, you can't argue with his main premise in his book which is that we need leadership with "Character".
Mike is a down-to-earth kind of guy with a country, home-spun, self-depriciating humor that will move even the coldest hearts.
Mike writes like he talks (in fact, sometimes better) so if you have seen his TV show, you will get an idea of how the book will flow.
Mike Huckabee is Humble, Likeable, and a Great Leader! Nov 10, 2008
Mike Huckabee will be one of the greatest leaders in American history. He treats everyone respectfully, even if they disagree with him. He is one of the most likeable, personable, friendly, humble people to run for President since Ronald Reagan.
Mike Huckabee's new show HUCKABEE on Foxnews at 8pm ET on Sat. & Sun. is so well liked that thousands across the country can hardly wait each week to tune in. Whether you agree with Huckabee's philosophy or not, you know that you have made a good friend when you meet him and his wonderful family.
