Item description for Jewel Heist (Mike Hamel's Matterhorn the Brave, No. 4) by Mike Hamel...
Overview A few hours after Jewel arrives home from ancient Egypt, she is kidnapped by a wraith from First Realm. The Baron receives a ransom note demanding he and Matterhorn bring their Talis--the Traveler's Cube and the Sword of Truth--to the Bermuda Triangle to trade for her life. Jewel's captor is a smooth-talking noble from First Realm named Etham. He explains that the heretics only want to take over Earth to keep the human race from destroying itself. He promises that when they are in charge, they will put an end to disease, hunger and war. However, his words don't ring true, as he seems more than willing to lie, steal, and even kill, to get what he wants. Following the kidnapper's directions lands Matterhorn and the Baron in the middle of the ocean and on the lunch menu of a tiger shark. Sara the water nymph manages to get them to a nearby island, which turns out to be the home of fierce cannibals. And that's only the beginning of their troubles. They quickly discover that the Bermuda Triangle comes by its deadly reputation for good reason. The arrival of Nate the Great and Queen Bea puts the rescue mission into high gear. With the help of a merboy named Bin-dle, the Travelers discover a sunken portal that could be the key to finding Jewel. A category-5 hurricane puts a disastrous end to their first rescue plan. Their second plan fails to free Jewel and leaves the queen critically wounded. Their third attempt ends in an even worse disaster--one that puts the entire planet in peril! Recommended for ages 9 to 12.
