Item description for When Love Bends Down: Images of the Christ Who Meets Us Where We Are by Michael E. Lodahl...
Overview Mud pies. Sandy scribbles. Dirty feet. These images tell a story of how Jesus reached down to love us in the muck and mire of our lives and in doing so revealed the true nature of God. 'When Love Bends Down' breaks away from overspiritualized Christianity and reaffirms the "nitty-gritty loving one another" lifestyle that Jesus originally called us to - a Christianity that first finds its expression in our love toward others. With precision and craftsmanship, Michael Lodahl takes the threads of Christ's love found in the writings of John and weaves them together into a beautiful picture of a love that poked below the surface of false piety, that slavishly washes the dirt and dust off road-worn feet, and that gives up everything - even life itself - for others. This profound portrait of incarnational Christianity shows you a God who willingly opens His hands, stoops down, and reaches people where they are. It will challenge you to bend down and do the same.
Publishers Description Throughout the Gospel of John, we see images of Christ who bends low to the ground in order to reach others. In When Love Bends Down, author Michael Lodahl examines four specific passages in the Gospel of John-Jesus scrawling in the dust, making mud from spittle to smear on a blind man's eyes, washing His disciple's feet, and cooking breakfast for his disciples-and shows how these help illustrate the fundamental truth that God was willing to bend down and dwell among us in order to reach us where we are. Lodahl emphasizes that by understanding the bent-down theology of Jesus we can better understand how the Church is called to a 'bent-down' life together as Christ's body in the world today. When Love Bends Down offers students, teachers, pastors, church leaders, and laypeople a new vision of Christ and the kind of people He calls us to be.

Reviews - What do customers think about When Love Bends Down: Images of the Christ Who Meets Us Where We Are?
Jesus Looks into our Eyes Jan 19, 2007
Lodahl has captured a wonderful visual point of view from the heart of Jesus; the stories show how the worst of sinners can receive His grace and eternal life. Christ meets our needs using the dust of the earth to write his message to all.
Easy read while touching the heart as Jesus looks into our eyes on our level.
