Item description for The New Shiatsu Method: Helping the Body to Heal Itself by Michael Christini Ryokyu Endo...

Internationally acclaimed Shiatsu master explains how to use the method he has developed according to his new theory of pressure points and meridian lines.
Shiatsu is the Japanese art of healing using hand pressure, which is based on the ancient Oriental medicine theory of ki, or the body's natural energy flow.
Ryokyu Endo is an internationally known master of Shiatsu, and has been dubbed "miracle hands" for his healing abilities. He trained in traditional Oriental medical techniques, and went on to practice what he called "Tao Shiatsu," a technique based on Taoist principles, which he has taught at workshops and lectures in various countries, and which he explained in Tao Shiatsu: Life Medicine for the 21st Century (Japan Publications, 1995). He has since made several startling discoveries that have led him to adapt his original technique. Shiatsu is based on the theory that there are certain points on the body that can be used for healing, called tsubo. Conventionally tsubo are in fixed positions, Endo now believes that they are constantly moving according to changes in a person's ki. He now believes that conventional shiatsu builds up resistance to treatment in the body. In The New Shiatsu Method, Endo explains the principles of ki, tsubo and meridians-the lines along which ki energy flows-providing ki meditation and breathing techniques, and explaining how to develop ki power. He also demonstrates how to visualize meridians and locate tsubo, and provides a detailed, clearly illustrated, step-by-step guide to his treatment techniques that can be practiced by the individual on him/herself or on a partner in order to heal a specific ailment or generally promote a sense of wellbeing.

Reviews - What do customers think about The New Shiatsu Method: Helping the Body to Heal Itself?

This is the only true continuation of Masunaga's Zen Shiatsu  May 27, 2005
The heart of TAO Shiatsu (and of TAO in general) is discussed in great detail in this book published by Master Ryokyu Endo, who is also the author of "Tao Shiatsu: Life Medicine for the Twenty-First Century". Together these two books cover both the medical system (this is the focus of the first book - "Tao Shiatsu - life medicine for the twenty-first century") and the Author's personal journey into the world of Ki (energy) in his 25 years of clinical work (this is the focus of this book).
Most people think shiatsu is some form of massage and as such is all about the physical touch. They can't be further from the truth, as this book vividly explains shiatsu is all about the Tao heart, without which no treatment can occur. This book tackles this highly abstract subject of Tao heart and the world of Ki in a very simple language with many vivid stories based on the personal experience of the author.
Any Shiatsu enthusiast or even a person with some interest in eastern medicine MUST own both books. It is also highly recommended to those in search of the real spiritual work done by great masters at the far east.
On a side note the author (and some teachers trained by him) teach workshops all over the world. While reading this book can be a very powerful experience, it is not even close to attending one of these workshops and receiving the Tao Heart directly from the teacher - a very important element in teachings from the far east.
