More About Mercer Mayer
Mercer Mayer, writer and illustrator for Little Critter First Readers, as well as Little Critter Spectrum began writing and illustrating children's books in 1966 and since that time, he has published over 300 titles. Open almost any of the award-winning author/illustrator's books, and out may pop dragons, cuddly monsters, wonderful creatures, and endearing critters. "Most of my books are about things that happened to me when I was a little kid," says Mercer. "Now that I'm a big kid, I write about things that happen now, especially with my own children. They always help remind me of what it was like." Born in Little Rock, Arkansas, Mercer Mayer spent his childhood hunting lizards and snakes in the swamps near his home. During his teenage years, he attended the Honolulu Academy of Arts. He later received additional training at the Art Students League in New York City. Upon completion of his studies, he set out with pen and ink to write and illustrate a collection of children's book, reflecting many of the adventures he experienced as a child.
Mercer Mayer currently resides in the state of Connecticut. Mercer Mayer was born in 1943.

Love these books Aug 10, 2007
I have never found a Mercer Mayer book that I didn't like. They are cute, funny, have great pictures, and a nice message. Oh, and the kids enjoy them too!
Great book Jan 5, 2007
I found this to be an example of reinforcement for our 5 grandsons. As parents work toward age appropriate tasks for their children this book makes it fun.
When I Get Bigger Sep 26, 2003
This book is called when I get bigger and it's about a kid that cant wait to grow up and he's talking about all the things he can do. Then in the end he realizes that you can still do thing when you were little than when you are grown up. It teaches you that being grown up isn't always fun. I would recommend it to a 1st or 2nd grader. This is about a 6 or 7-year-old child.
I'm a big girl now Dec 11, 2002
I liked this book because it made me think about what I get and have to do when I'm older. Of course they are different than crossing the street alone and going to the store by myself. This should be good for kids because they get to see what they can look forward to when they become older. This book is short, simple and to the point, just like I like them!
A review! Dec 10, 2002
When I get bigger is another one of my favorite books by Mercer Mayer. In this book It gave me flashbacks on how when I was little I couldnt do the things I can do now. In the book Critter dreams of things he can do when he gets bigger. In the end it says "im going to bed, im not bigger yet". In his own mind he thinks he is bigger but hes not. Most kids dream that they are bigger but there not.
