Overview The wondrous saving grace of Jesus comes alive in both image and word. While twenty-one beautiful, glowing icons lead us to see Jesus face to face, the accompanying reflections call us to become an image of God and to put on the new life of Christ.
Publishers Description While eighteen beautiful, glowing icons lead us to see God face to face, the accompanying reflections call us to become this image of God, to put on the new life of Christ.
As they have throughout the centuries, icons lead us, teach us, inspire us, and draw us into the presence of God. In the words of Megan McKenna, "The icon is a way for the friends of Christ to share in his mysteries, in the sacraments, and to come to know the Father as Jesus knew him in the flesh. . . . Each icon reveals a different facet of who Jesus is and what he has done in creation."

Gorgeous and inspiring Dec 25, 2009
Father William Hart McNichols' beautifully painted icons combined with Megan McKenna's well researched and deeply spiritual text make this an inspiring and moving book. Father McNichols is a remarkable scholar who, although he is a Roman Catholic and does not claim to be an Orthodox iconographer, has spent years studying Orthodox icons and has fully mastered both their technical and spiritual qualities. Like those of Orthodox iconographers, his icons are the product of long hours of study and prayer. This book features twenty-one icons portraying various aspects of Jesus, from the newborn child to the feminine Holy Wisdom to the crucified and risen Christ. The text is filled with references from scripture, modern literature, the writings of the Saints and other historical documents. If you are looking for a beautiful, thoroughly researched and well written, inspiring and fully accessible book that will bring the love, humanity and divinity of Christ alive through image and word, this is an excellent choice.
Hippie Catholic book... Jul 11, 2009
A hippie Catholic book written by a hippy Catholic. I could not take this author seriously. I am Eastern Orthodox Christian and icons are at the heart and center of our piety. I am sure there are better books about icons. This author very clearly has a pro-gay, pro-liberal Catholic agenda.
