This story is about a little tiger named Baeoh who was born without stripes, but wants to be a three-striped tiger. He leaves home to find his destiny. He meets a tiger named Jahngsoo. Jahngsoo trains him to be a three-striped tiger. Baeoh learns the lessons taught to him and eventually starts to earn his stripes. One day he hears the jackals are trying to take over the tiger colony. He goes back home to help them. When he gets there, the jackals come out of the forest to fight. Baeoh tells them "the greatest leadership is to use our strength to help those weaker than ourselves. We must learn to live with the jackals in harmony." Because of his wisdom, and courage, Beaoh earns his third stripe and becomes the leader of his colony.
I like this story because it has tigers in it. I recommend "The Legend of Baeoh" to kids. I learned that courage is about you believing in yourself. I also learned that talking can help you solve problems. You do not need to fight.

Young Baeoh is not content with a second-class life, and sets out to earn his stripes through training and hard work. Yet he learns that the true value of power is not in having power, but using it to protect those who need it most. Great Lesson to Live By Jul 23, 2007
My son is now 5 years old and just starting out in ATA. Mr. Lucas Taekwon Lee visited his school and taught a class with the little students as well as the older students. He brought his book. We read it that night and it is a very good lesson that many have forgotten. In todays culture it is expected the world meet you have way. This story teaches of perseverance "Never Give Up." This is something we need our young people to understand and work hard. This is what makes a great leader.
The Courage to Change Your Destiny Jul 17, 2007
"The Legend of Baeoh" was inspired by the story of how the father of Lucas Taekwon Lee overcame his struggles of poverty and hardship in Korea.
After immigrating to America Haeng Ung Lee created the world's largest martial arts organization based on Taekwondo. As Grand Master, H. U. Lee believed he could accomplish more than his destiny would have allowed.
The distinctive, brightly colored, illustrations of Max Forward bring to life the story of Baeoh, the young tiger, born without stripes. The story parallels Lee's father's courage, perseverance, and discipline, in the pursuit of making an impossible dream come true.
This is a remarkable story of inspiration, which generates confidence for young and old alike. A story that helps anyone to set their goals just beyond the destiny set by circumstances. Baeoh earned his stripes through honor, nobility, respect, courage and leadership.
An Interactive exercise at the close of the book helps the young reader determine his destiny, set three goals, and measure their achievement by earning their three stripes, even as Baeoh did. Highly motivational, a challenging narrative, and beautiful illustration combine to make this a remarkable book.
