Item description for Our Sunday Visitor's Encyclopedia of Saints by Matthew Bunson, Margaret Bunson & Stephen Bunson...
Overview Presents more than 10,000 alphabetical entries on the lives of Christian saints and includes information on such topics as the canonization process, emblems of the saints, patron saints, and mystics.
Publishers Description From Aaron to Zoticus --with some 10,000 in between -- here are the Church's "holy ones." These are the men, women, and children whose heroic virtue -- whose example of faith, hope, and love -- proves that spiritual greatness on earth is possible. Here are their lives and their stories, simply, clearly, and accurately told. Updated to include canonizations of the third millennium, Our Sunday Visitor's Encyclopedia of Saints, Revised, presents the most comprehensive one-volume listing of saints and "beati" -- the "blessed" who are one step from canonization. Here, too, are explanations of the Catholic Church's teaching on the Communion of Saints and its tradition of veneration as well as alphabetical listings of the biographies of nearly the whole body of those revered as saints throughout the world.

A Wonderful Reference Oct 21, 2000
This is one of those books that you keep in the library as the perfect reference. The curious minded reader can browse these pages for hours. As the title indicates it is an Encyclopedic work set up in alphabetical order by name. Most entries have biographical information with note of the feast day. The twelve Appendices are a great addition and sort the entries in a range of catagories from Popes, US Martyrs, Mystics, etc. There is a Glossary of terms and a Calendar of Feast Days as well as an Alphabetical Index. Text is broken with the occational black and white engraving. A very comprehensive and complete work on the saints both famous and obscure as well as significant beati.
