Item description for Legendary American Cars by Matt DeLorenzo...
Prince sang about the iconic “Little Red Corvette” and the Beach Boys paid tribute to the “Little Deuce Coupe.” The controversial horseless carriage became a sign of affluence in its earliest days, and the car continues to be an image-maker to this day. Since the first models rolled off the assembly line, the American automobile has been a status symbol and symbol of the enduring strength of this country. Stunning color photographs and a lively narrative by one of today's foremost automotive writers tell the story of America's ongoing love affair with cars. Featuring classic cars, sports cars, and luxury automobiles, this handsome book brings together pictures and descriptions of the most impressive blends of technology, art, beauty, and adventure. From the groundbreaking Model A Ford to the state-of-the-art models of today, cars from every era are showcased in hundreds of glorious full-color photographs that demonstrate the designs that made these cars true icons. Readers experience the excitement generated by the elegant cars of Packard's golden era in the 1930s, and admire the outrageous fins, gleaming chrome, and dazzling two-toned paint jobs of the cars of the 50s. Ford Mustangs and Corvettes also make an appearance, as do such undeniably American classics as Pontiacs, Chryslers, Cadillacs, and many more. Matt de Lorenzo is Detroit editor for Road &Track Magazine, previously working as editor of AutoWeek. He has written two books, Volkswagen New Beetle and Chrysler Concept Cars: The Designs that Saved the Company, and has co-authored two additional books. De Lorenzo is a founding member of the North American Car and Truck of the Year Awards.

great Xmas gift for a classic car lover Dec 7, 2007
The book is gorgeous. Its size, its overall quality of binding are impressive, and its photographs are just stunning. In fact, the quality of photographs is the most attractive feature of this book. The large-scale format, and what is even more important, the ultra-high resolution of the pictures allow to see every single detail of the car, literally, while deep, gleaming colors make every photograph the candy for the eyes! The text comes like a pleasant bonus. Unless you are a newcomer in the fantastic world of classic cars, you'll probably find it not very informative, but certainly nice and neat to read. It`s like an icing on the cake. What makes the book on such general subject remarkable is the model selection, and that's exactly what makes me so exciting about it. Elegant Packards, mighty Duesenbergs, rakish Cords, classic Chrysler Imperials, fabulous Cadillacs ... You will find all of them, both pre- and post-war, in abundance! If you were born a little earlier and knew the classic car before it became a muscle car, you know what I mean. The books with such model selections are not so common nowadays, but you have a nice opportunity to buy just one more of them right now.
