Item description for Illuminated (An August Adams Adventure V1) by Matt Bronlewee...
Overview August Adams is paid millions by his clients to hunt for rare books--treasures lying dormant on forgotten shelves like unseen Picassos or unheard Mozarts. But now, August faces the most difficult challenge of his life: he must unravel the clues hidden in the illuminations of the Gutenberg Bible in order to save his son.
His journey takes him to the Library of Congress where he seeks the aid of his ex-wife, beautiful book curator April Adams. They soon discover that others with less than honorable intentions are also searching for the Gutenberg Bible. As the quest continues, August finds himself trapped in a web of international thieves, government cover-ups, and take-no-prisoners treasure seekers. A mystery hundreds of years in the making ultimately leads August to learn the truth about the book . . . and about himself.
August Adams has failed his family before. Hes sacrificed relationships in pursuit of adventure, fame, and money. Now the very lives of those he loves depend on his ability to decipher a centuries-old puzzle encrypted in the colorful hand-painted illuminations that adorn three rare Gutenberg Bibles.
Its a secret that could yield unimaginable wealth, undermine two major religions, and change the course of Western civilization. Two ruthless, ancient organizations are willing to do anything to get their hands on it. And August has the span of one transatlantic flight to figure it out.

Great Read! Aug 13, 2008
I heard about this book when it first came out but just now had a chance to read it right before book 2 came out. A great read that reads quickly. It reminds me of alot of National Treasure but deals with church history and the Guttenberg Bible instead of American history. Some of it does seem sensational but it is still a fun read. Also I liked the characters as they had some major issues/flaws that we can all relate to. I have already picked up a copy of House of Wolves (book 2) which looks just as good.
All the Endorsements are correct! Aug 11, 2008
The endorsements for this book rave about it's quality and after reading the story I must admit that I agree fully! Bringing forth an adventurous story keeping you guessing as to who is the good guy and who is bad, this is a real page turner. It is said to be a mix between 24, Indiana Jones, and the LOTR and I can see that. I'd also throw in a little Tomb Raider, National Treasure, and the Librarian for good measure. There is one scene in the book that I would not recommend for under 13, but the rest is just plain fabulous. It's better than a movie and is in an easy to carry format. I cannot wait to break the cover of Matt Bronleewe's next House of Wolves, I'm sure it will prove to be just as exciting!
Great Debut with more to come! Jul 17, 2008
I picked up this book because I'm a book fanatic and love "books on books." Matt also appealed to me because he is a man of many talents (see his bibliography in the music industry) and apparently is enjoying doing his research.
If you want to read a Clancy length book, then buy Clancy books. If you want a tight plot, a believable main character, and a story line that clearly will make a great movie, read this book.
This is a great debut thriller, and you don't have to be a thriller fan to enjoy this one. Its a fast read (count on at least one long night or two short ones to finish it) and propelled me as a reader through the pages. I've read some of the other reviews, and disagree that this first attempt at a full length novel falls short in any way. Its clear to me that Matt will have a long career of writing. I expect to see him continue to unfold the story ideas to greater and greater lengths, so get in on this one now, so you have the backstory of his main character (August) for his next book, House of Wolves.
surprising in many ways... Jul 16, 2008
i liked: the story line-suspenseful, fast paced, adventuresome, mysterious, complex, twists and turns. each chapter switched to a separate yet parallel facet of the story. gained momentum with each page. mostly, the book was entertaining, which is why i wanted to read it. i disliked: the sexually suggestive exchanges, and, the violent/savage/very bloody/gory scene details were unnecessary to the plot, sequence of events, ending, and enjoyment. seemed over the top. this surprised me from a christian author and christian publisher. had i not known, could have easliy been from a secular writer and publisher. i almost put the book down at several points. would have been a great read without this type of sensational treatment. not for the young reader or your church library.
Illuminated Jul 15, 2008
This one really reminded me of Divinci Code. I love trying to solve the mysteries of old! I really liked the soundtrack to the different characters that you can download for free on the author's website! It was fun to have some music to go with the plot! This was a fun read!
