Reviews - What do customers think about American Jihad: First Episode Of The Collection Agency : An Original Story?
Where's the next one? Jan 23, 2006
If you're into spy/thriller genre, you're likely as disappointed as I am with the watered-down, "co-authored" schlock being peddled under formerly great author's names (600 pages of filler and not a good idea in sight, etc.).
Take heart that here's at least one new author who knows how to cut the fat, to bring you back the fresh, martini-at-poolside, flashlight under the covers page-turner, flesh & bones adventure that got you reading back in the day.
Readers are introduced to the protagonists in a series of almost standalone vignettes -- reminiscent of serialized, folio-magazine short-stories. Each team member brings a constellation of skills and knowledge to the picture that will be vital to success of their "collective" mission.
Rose Cross evokes a world much like our own, but with a refreshing new twist vs. the host of insipid, formulaic adventure/ thriller novels on the shelves. Because of his background, he deals with issues, ops, and technology in the tradition of Ian Flemming, e.g. from somebody who has actually been there.
But there's nothing smug about his writing style--no elitist insider attitude. His prose is vivid and engaging, with attention to character depth & development that shames more established authors.
Para-politics, secret bank accounts, massive corruption at the highest levels, double-cross and betrayal are all overcome by a set of talented agents and those who assist them behind the scenes.
The book is made all the more powerful by a refreshing moral underpinning that arises naturally from someone who has served in good faith. The real international currency, more precious than gold, is the mutual respect and professional reputation that transcends borders or military branch. In that sense, the book is a love letter to every comrade in arms out there who shares a motivation, code of ethics and servant-warrior honor that political leaders discount or ignore at their peril.
Worldwide, their expertise and network is tremendous. They know the score, and they'll do the right thing within the bounds of duty and honor, regardless of orders. Before the ship explodes or the bullet leaves the chamber, which side are you really on? It's the only thing that matters, and it just might save your life.
High Praise for American Jihad! Dec 24, 2004
Rose Cross pulls back the curtain to show you the people who carry out the deadliest warfare, the kind you never see. He paints with the detailed brush of an eyewitness, clear, vivid and unforgettable. You are given more than the translation of Arabic, you are given the undecipherable cultural clues that begin to explain how 911 happened and why terrorism will continue. You wonder if you are reading fiction.
American Jihad eases you into the smooth, plush seat of a Maserati that begins a thrilling trek across continents, in the company of former navy seals, Extremist Saudis, former-F117 fighters, and the beautiful machismo of intelligence operatives. The mechanics of espionage echo the cold elegance of mathematical solutions. It's not about one man. Cross sets up international geo-politics on the board and shows you how the CIA, NSA, Legion and Qaeda move their pieces. Men and women emerge from around the world to be part of the solution. You hope it's not fiction...
