Item description for Rules of the Game: Grammar Through Discovery/Book 1/2237 by Mary Page, Peter Guthrie & Sloan Sable...
Overview In Rules of the Game we set out to write a grammar book that would encourage students to discover that grammar is just another name for the patterns that exist in language. In our own teaching, we have discovered that students learn grammar more effectively if they can, in some sense, recreate the process by which rules and definitions have evolved. To achieve this goal, we start each lesson with examples and directed questions, clues to help students see that rules and definitions begin with language and are not handed down from some invisible legislature.
