Book Study Apr 26, 2010
We recently began a Book Study using For Better, For Worse, For God. It was an amazing evening!
Couples came who have not attended any other marriage education or enrichment events in our parish. Young couples, older couples, sponsor couples, those with children and some without. One couple from an adjoining diocese drove over an hour to get here; another couple, young and has no married friends, a single gal, whose significant other is in Austin came as part of her discernment process; another older couple who just visited their granddaughter in a home for abused and challenged children said they just needed a "boost"... The list goes on...
Everyone jumped in with both feet right away -- shared, laughed, cried a little and can't wait to come back next week!
It was a graced-filled and joy-filled evening!

Practical and Spiritual Apr 3, 2009
This book would be great for any married couple as an anniversary gift. Mary Jo Pedersen wrote about deepening the spiritual connection and finding the "homemade holiness" in everyday married life. There are lots of questions throughout the book that help you to examine your marriage, whether you have been married 6 years (like myself) or 60 years. The end of the book has 9 practical suggestions that you can use immediately. I would highly recommend this book.
Great resource for couples! Mar 30, 2009
This is an excellent resource for couples, long time married, newly married and soon to be married.
Mary Jo does a great job of writing a well rounded, down to earth, easy to understand and use book on the holy mystery and sacrament of marriage. I highly recommend the book to all. I gave it as a thank you gift to couples I know who work in marriage preparation programs. It was a great way to say THANK YOU to them and also bless them with an outstanding resource to enrich their own marriage. I also plan on giving copies to my nephews and their wives!
For Better or for Worse Mary jo Pedersen Mar 1, 2009
We have been married for forty-one years and are always open and receptive to good resources for enhancing the quality of our marriage. We apprecite both the format and content of Mary Jo Pedersen's book which we've been reading togethr at night. At the end of chapter two we wrote: " Helpful in understanding what we did and did not receive from our parents example of marriage." Our comment in chapter three: "Excellent chapter and powerful reminder of the holiness of our vocation." I bought this book for each of our three married children with the hope that they too can use it as a resource for deeper reflection on the sacramental nature of their life together. We found both the depth theiologically and invitaion to exchanage focused reflections not only helpful but an enjoyable way to end the day.
Inspirational Roadmap for Marriage Jan 7, 2009
Wow! I have found the perfect Valentines Day gift for both our married children,(seven years and one year) and my husband! (thiry-eight long years-:)) I am going to give everyone For Better, For Worse, For God-Exploring the Holy Mystery of Marriage. I found Mary Jo Pedersen's book to be accessible and spiritual on many levels. It is theological and practical. It contains both personal assignments (i.e. reflect for a moment and list several things that you are doing as a couple at this stage in your marriage to create an 'intimate community of love and life.') and theological support (from biblical references to C.S. Lewis) The book is a layered inspirational roadmap for the sacrament of marriage.
