Reviews - What do customers think about Elsie's Girlhood (Elsie Dinsmore Collection)?

Rhoda read it!!!  Jul 1, 2008
I haven't read this book, but the fictional character, Rhoda, in The Bad Seed makes a point of reading it. I think it was clever of Maxwell Anderson to include the book Elsie Dinsmore in his play. You must see The Bad Seed to understand why.
One Of A Kind  Apr 23, 2006
Martha Finley's writing styel is singular. I love the leasurly way she unwinds her tails, and especially this one, which is, I believe, my favorite Elsie book. The old fashioned way of both telling, and wording, her stories is charming. And the spiritual depths are refreshing. Srtrap up: you are on an emotional roller coaster. Get ready to laugh, gasp, cry, and, most of all, SMILE. I love Elsie, Horace, Rose, and Edward. The "A Life Of Faith" Elsie books are cheap, light reading. If you want the real story, then read the real story.
I Couldn't Stop Smiling  Jan 26, 2005
In my opinon this where the Elsie series should have stopped. I own all of the Elsie books and my opinon this is by far the best. What Elsie fans think is coming at the end of book two actually happens.
At the end of this book I couldn't stop smiling when Travilla finally professed his love!!!-- It was probably the most romantic ending I've ever read. I've read and re-read this book probably a hundred times and still seems just as touching as when I first read it. The Travilla events in this book are so touching and personal you find yourselves wishing you were in Elsie's shoes.
As in all of the Elsie books things start out slow and boring but, quickly become interesting once you get into the story. This is in my opinon is the crown jewel in her writing,
I would recomend the Elsie books to anyone who has a young daughter or who is a Christian... these books are meant to be an example on morallity and beauty. Buy the first four trust me you will not regret it!!!
Terrific!  Mar 17, 2004
I think my favorite part of this book was Aunt Wealthy, who keeps putting the hind part first in her speech, such as "Horace, will you please step up on that figurine so you can get the ladder down from the shelf?" (Horace, will you please step up on that ladder so you can get the figurine down from the shelf?"

In response to one review I read I think the reason why Elsie was so naive is because she was deeply in love with Broomly, the money seeker, and unfortunately in her case, 'love covers a multitude of sins.'

If she had been just a little bit the rebel, she would have married Broomly Earginton and got in to a whole lot of mess.

Also, Edward Travilla was not twice her age, he was only 8 or 9 years older than she was, and if my memory serves me correctly, Princess Diana was 13 years younger than the Prince. So much for age! (And if its any consolation, Mr. Travilla dies in a couple of years.)

Sorry if thats a spoiler, but one of the titles of the books is "Elsie's Widowhood."

Other than that, I really enjoyed this book, and I do recommend it.

Awesome!  Jun 6, 2003
