Item description for Elsie on the Hudson (Elsie Dinsmore Collection) by Martha Finley...

The Elsie Dinsmore Novels, 28 Books in Series, Martha Finley is the author of the best series of Christian novels in the last two hundred years. Written by Martha Finley, an unmarried teacher of the last century, these novels proved to be a means of conveying her deep loce for Christ Jesus. She loved her Lord, she loved His Word, and this love was passed on to His sheep through the writing of by far the best and most Biblical novels you will ever read or see. All the novels are built around Elsie Dinsmore, her immediate family, her extended family, and her neighbors. Miss Finley's novels sold more than 28,000,000 copies in the last century. This made them among the best-selling novels of all time. The astonishing thing about them is that they are chock full of the God-breathed words of the Bible. In this day of moral decline, there is a falling away from making the Scriptures the strict guide of our lives. Because of this there is a tendency to look upon any book that depicts a family that lives by the Book as too other-worldly for today's readers. Don't you believe it! She proved that it is possible to write a Biblical novel that is a joy to read? Good, inspirational writing is not hindered by the inclusion of the Scriptures that bear directly on the lives of the characters. In fact, you will conclude that the story is much enhanced by the scriptural content. This is because the words of God are not thrust in as an alien element, but are woven into the story as essential threads that make the reading of it a memorable experience. Every God-loving family needs these godly books. You, your family, friends, children of all ages will be blessed by page after page as they witness that whole families can live by the Scriptures and be happier than families not so blessed. There is plenty of drama, the kind that engages the heart and soul of the reader, yet without today's emphasis on broken families and broken hearts. You will find warmth, tears, and other elements of a true-to-life novel. The characters are such as to teach right from wrong without preaching. Wise parents will read the first novel, Elsie Dinsmore to the little ones. As they grow older, and begin to read, they will want to read this first one for themselves. Then they will find pleasure in reading each one to the younger members of the family one after another.

Reviews - What do customers think about Elsie on the Hudson (Elsie Dinsmore Collection)?

Too Boring ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ  Feb 19, 2003
While the newlyweds Rosie and Will enjoy their honeymoon, Evelyn invites the rest of the family to join her at Crag Cottage, which overlooks the Hudson River. En route to the cottage aboard the Dolphin, the Travillas, Lelands, and Raymonds visit many historic sites and learn about the Revolutionary War and its heroes and villains. Meanwhile, Grandma Elsie and Annis visit relatives in Pleasant Plains, Ohio.
When the burglar whom Lulu captured escapes from prison, he seeks revenge. Chester Dinsmore, however, saves her life, and Captain Raymond is so grateful that he hives Chester permission to seek Lulu's hand marriage.
That just about sums up the whole book. I can read these books in 30 mn. flat because they are sooooo boring.
Books 1-14 are ok, but after that it is entirely boring. They even have Cp. Raymond reading out of a history book! Penned in the mid-nineteenth century, the original Elsie books were written by Martha Finley as a means to support herself after she suffered a serious injury. Finley wrote twenty-eight Elsie books before her death in 1909.

Why are there no reviews (or Editorials) for this book?  Jan 8, 2003
I read reviews for the first 5 books and almost every said they were great books and they wanted to but them all, but then I skip ahed a couple of books and what do I find nothing not even an editorial! and I know why- the books before Mr. Raymound buys the yacht I might give 1-2 star ratings but once they start going on trips my ratings go down to minus. Martha Finly has her characters telling the young ones storys from history, if it hadn't for the frequent exclamations of "Oh my" "Thats terrible" "Yes indeed" ect. you might mistaken them for history books-she even has them READING history books aloud-and its all written in the books. I havent even bothered to read the last book because there is only about 3 pages of things cocerning Elsie in it.
