Item description for The Symphony of Scripture: Making Sense of the Bible's Many Themes by Mark Strom...

Overview
The Bible is the sure Word of God, a help and guide for our everyday life. But it's also filled with bewildering diversity-poetry, history, and letters written by dozens of people in several languages. What do the exodus, covenant, and priesthood have to do with grace, faith, and discipleship? What possible connection can there be between Sinai and Golgotha? How do we get from the Garden of Eden to the New Jerusalem? This accessible introduction to the Bible emphasizes the unity within its diversity. The Symphony of Scripture traces the great biblical themes in their recurring rhythyms and patterns, helping the reader see and appreciate God's grand, overarching design

Reviews - What do customers think about The Symphony of Scripture: Making Sense of the Bible's Many Themes?

Many Instruments, Many Parts, One Song  Jun 30, 2008
If you want a great overview of the whole of scripture and how it all fits together as one story then get this book. It is awesome. What helps the most is at the end of each chapter you are challenged to prepare a Bible study on a certain texts and ideas conveyed in the chapter. Mark gives a big overview of all the groups of books - sometimes he doesnt go into each book in great detail but just how it fits into the overall story. (minor prophets etc) But this has forced me to read a lot more of the Bible to understand the conclusions he talks about. I thought I knew the bible well but this has helped me to understand things a lot better.

Its up there with the likes of Graeme Goldsworthy's "According to the plan" and Gordon Fee & Douglas Stuarts "How to read the Bible for all its worth."
