Item description for Marketa Luskacova by Marketa Luskacova, Gerry Badger, Marie Klimesova & Josef Topol...
Czech photographer Marketa Luskacova's work is valued both as document and ethical message. This monograph, comprised of photographs taken from the mid-60s to the present, includes her series Pilgrims and Sumiac, Slovakia, which capture the vanishing world of the rural pilgrim and the mountain people of Slovakia. Later cycles, shot in Great Britain, focus on the world of threatened minorities and children.

Luskacova is one of the world's most sensitive observors of the human condition. Her photographs reveal the souls of people not simply their appearances as one is led to expect by the fashion-crazed appetites of contemporary life. Her work is not only penetrating but modest, even humble in the way it permits the viewer to share in the joys and griefs of being human. Luskacova is an artist of great magnitude and should be acknowledged as such. This book is ample demonstration.
