Reviews - What do customers think about 1-3 John (IVP New Testament Commentary Series)?
Review of Thompson's IVP Commentary: 1-3 John May 12, 2010
Dr. Marianne Meye Thompson has provided the church a balanced and helpful commentary on 1-3 John. She writes from an evangelical perspective (undergrad degree from Wheaton, Ph.D from Duke) with an eye toward the fuller body of Christ. She has been a professor of NT at Fuller Theological Seminary since 1985. I found her writing to be cogent and clear, and always aware of and sensitive to John's more elaborate witness in the fourth book of the New Testament which bares his name. There is consistent cross-reference to John's witness in this gospel throughout these epistles. I found this volume in the outstanding IVP Commentary Series on the NT to be one of its most helpful in preaching and teaching in the local church. Helpful footnotes will appeal to those who want to trace her arguments through other sources and scholarly works. Very solid.
