Item description for Hope's Beat: The Story of a Teenager, Her Stepmother, and a Rock Star by Marguerite Kloepfer...
The paramedics, one at each end, rolled the gurney out the door. Hope followed, standing in the street as the men opened the back of the ambulance and slid the gurney inside. They banged the door closed, cutting of Hope's last view of her Nana forever.
Fifteen year-old Hope Manning was too numbed by her grandmother's death to understand that even greater problems lay ahead. Would her father take custody of her? Would the woman he was about to marry accept her? Where would she live or go to school? Only the beat of her favorite music could penetrate her grief.

An excellent story about a girl trying to figure out her place in the world and who she is. Well written with wonderful plot twist that keep it interesting from beginning to end. Follows in the wonderful legacy of Judy Blume's girl comming of age stories.
An intriguing twist on real problems for real teens Dec 12, 2005
Hope, or Hummer as she likes to be known, certainly has her share of problems in this book. The very surprising twist of who her mother really is, and the reality of it all speaks to every teen who wished they were really someone, and somewhere, else. My 13-year-old niece liked the book so much, I read it too!
