Item description for The Other End of the String by Margaret P. Morrison...
This true story is woven from real memories of real people. Like a stark black-and-white etching, this picture of a difficult time has some elements that are sharp, painful as a piercing splinter. Even in those places, perhaps you will hear the consistent theme of a family's love song. May you always know that someone holds the other end of your string.

A Must Read Oct 29, 2007
I fell in love with the wisdom of this memoir and I saved time not having to read about 1,000 self-help books in the process. In a recollection of a functional family I realized that something happened in American history that has taken us off a path that was right there under our noses years ago. Respect for each other, respect for the earth, eating simple foods, and being "rich" in other things, the inner, the immaterial. And none of it was labeled "eco-friendly." I felt like the characters in this book grabbed the other end of my string. I never felt like this when reading a book. I remembered to be grateful again.
A inspiring book, well worth reading. Aug 3, 2007
This is a thoroughly enjoyable read that transports you to another time. Through slice of life vingettes you step into the past and feel the sorrow and love of this family during a time of economic struggle in this nation. I highly recommend this book and hope you all have someone special holding onto the "end of the string" in your life.
A story that will touch your heart.... Aug 2, 2007
"The Other End of the String" is a story about a family. Its author rejects the temptation to write her story through rose-colored glasses, yet she weaves a thread of love through every chapter. Through the ups and downs, the joys and sorrows, Ms. Morrison reminds us that when we remember Who holds the other end of the string, no matter how lost we might become, we can always find our way home.
