Item description for The Bible and the End of the World: Should We Be Afraid? by Margaret Nutting Ralph...
Overview A clear, popularly-written interpretation of what the Bible says about the end of the world, with emphasis on God as love and savior.
Publishers Description Doomsayers too often warp Bible messages to instill fear and to support their own agenda. Well-known educator Margaret Nutting Ralph explains how misinterpretation arises from taking a biblical line or two out of context to support one's own belief. Her words are bound to be controversial as she boldly states that certain well-known negative interpretations are flat-out wrong and are in fact abusive.
Ralph then explains how to read apocalyptic literature, understand the role of the prophets, and find the "good news" in the Book of Revelation. She reveals the positive interpretation of certain "famous" passages that are usually interpreted negatively. And she ultimately confirms the Bible's three central truths: that God is love, that God loves us, and that God saves.

Don't leave this book behind! Apr 19, 2001
If you read the Left Behind series (and even if you don't) read this book. I do have to correct what was written in the synopsis on this site: "Margaret Nutting Ralph attempts to correct what she claims are misinterpretations and misreadings of Scriptures that deal with the end of the world". NO, it's not what SHE claims are misinterpretations. Please remember that she is teaching a contextualist way to read scripture. This is not something she invented. This is what the Catholic Church teaches. If you pick up a copy of the study edition of the New American Bible, you will find the same viewpoint. You'll also find it in the JErome Biblical Commentary. Also if you read the books by Raymond Brown.
