Item description for Anytime, Anywhere: A Little Boy's Prayer by Marcus Hummon, Steven Johnson & Lou Fancher...
Overview As he prays one night for everything from the tiniest ladybug to the mailman with a broken leg, Isaac asks his weary father about such things as whether everyone prays to the same God, and how a bedtime prayer can be said by someone who has no bed.
Publishers Description At the end of a busy day, a little boy surprises and amuses his father with a rather unusual list of people and things he wants to pray for. From the littlest ladybug to the mailman who broke his leg, this boy's prayer celebrates the wonder of one child's imagination - and every child's ability to care deeply about others.
From Publishers Weekly A boy's bedtime routine turns into a thoughtful father-son exchange about prayer in this debut picture book by a Grammy-winning country songwriter. As his parents stand by, Isaac recites his nightly prayers and intersperses his very long list of God bless... requests with questions and observations (e.g., Does Grandma Anne hear my prayers in heaven?; I'm pretty sure God wants to hear from everybody, and I bet God can speak just about any language.). This type of tuck-in talk from a loquacious child will be familiar in many households; even so, Hummon's text is exhaustive. The words feel forced when Isaac wants to pray for every living thing, the homeless (his parents have taken him to visit a shelter), world peace and people in jail. Johnson and Fancher (What a Good Big Brother, reviewed Nov. 24) use soft-edged acrylic paintings and elements of collage to create cozy scenes in Isaac's bedroom and to depict some of his everyday experiences at school and in his neighborhood. Readers can follow a colorfully patterned patchwork motif of the quilt on Isaac's bed as a page border throughout the book. Ages 47. (Jan.) Copyright 2008 Reed Business Information.

ANYTIME, ANYWHERE A LITTLE BOY'S PRAYER MARCUS HUMMON YOUNG READERS AGES 4-7 Atheneum Books
Rating: 5 Enchantments
After Isaac's two books at reading time, he sits with his dad for his nightly prayers. He has a lot on his mind and a lot of questions. As with most young boys, he doesn't want to miss out on anything, even if it is at the sacrifice of bedtime.
Isaac wants to make sure his prayer is doesn't leave out anything or anyone. From Grandma Anne who is no longer there to pray with him, to the bugs that crawl on the ground; from the homeless and all those in the hospital and even in jail, Isaac makes sure they make his prayer list. His questions about God caring for those he doesn't even know are heart warming to the innocence of a child.
I believe ANYTIME, ANYWHERE, A LITTLE BOY'S PRAYER is a perfect book for the whole family to read together. It opens our eyes and minds to who else is out there that need prayer, even a prayer as big as world peace to a big God who can handle it all. I believe it will encourage the young to start saying their prayers and to know that God is there for everyone, no matter where and no matter what their condition of living is. I would recommend this to any family starting out their libraries for their children.
Marcus Hummon as a country music songwriter and theatrical composer has really hit the mark with answers to some of the questions children have about prayer.

It takes me back a long time. Jan 8, 2009
A wonderful love story of a father, son and the spiritual bond between them. It took me back many years when I would read to my two youngsters. The story is simple on the surface, but profound in its real message. Beautifully illustrated. A wonderful book for children and their parents.
