Overview Outlines a program developed by Gallup experts and based on a study of more than two million people to help readers discover their distinct talents and strengths and how they can be translated into personal and career successes. 100,000 first printing.
Publishers Description Based on a massive Gallup study of 2 million people, this book shows individuals how to cultivate their own career strengths and strengths, managers how to capitalize the talents of their people, and executives how to build an entire organization around the talents of each employee. Unfortunately, most of us have little sense of our talents and strengths, much less the ability to build our lives around them. Instead, guided by our parents, by our teachers, by our managers, and by psychology's fascination with pathology, we become experts in our weaknesses and spend our lives trying to repair these flaws, while our strengths lie dormant and neglected. Marcus Buckingham, coauthor of the national bestseller "First, Break All the Rules, " and Donald O. Clifton, Chair of the Gallup International Research & Education Center, have created a revolutionary program to help readers identify their talents, build them into strengths, and enjoy consistent, near-perfect performance. At the heart of the book is the Internet-based StrengthsFinder(R) Profile, the product of a 25-year, multimillion-dollar effort to identify the most prevalent human strengths. The program introduces 34 dominant "themes" with thousands of possible combinations, and reveals how they can best be translated into personal and career success. In developing this program, Gallup has conducted psychological profiles with more than two million individuals to help readers learn how to focus and perfect these themes. So how does it work? This book contains a unique identification number that allows you access to the StrengthsFinder Profile on the Internet. This Web-based interview analyzes your instinctive reactions and immediately presents you with your five most powerful signature themes. Once you know which of the 34 themes -- such as Achiever, Activator, Empathy, Futuristic, or Strategic -- you lead with, the book will show you how to leverage them for powerful results at three levels: for your own development, for your success as a manager, and for the success of your organization. With accessible and profound insights on how to turn talents into strengths, and with the immediate on-line feedback of StrengthsFinder at its core, "Now, Discover Your Strengths" is one of the most groundbreaking and useful business books ever written. Please note that the code for the Online Strengths Finder Test is found on the inside of the dust jacket or in the sealed sleeve bound into the book just before the end paper.

Excellent, insightful book May 21, 2007
This is an insightful look at personal development. After reading this book, I realized that I have expended a significant amount of time and effort to "improve" weaknesses and have only gained minimal improvements. These weaknesses are still weaknesses. This book recommends instead that you maximize your strengths which makes perfect sense!
High School Jrs/Srs - Buy this book! May 21, 2007
We have a friend who is madly in love with this book and it's accompanying strengths test. She convinced many of us to buy the book, read it (a must - before taking the test), and take the test. Our family members have gained so much insight into each other's strengths, and it has been all good! We were particularly interested in helping our High School-aged son understand his strengths before launching into college and the wide world. Now we understand how he processes information, how he connects with people, and why he handles situations the way he does. He now knows what might be easy for him to adapt to in college, and which adjustments might have to be more deliberate. It is amazing how much better we all communicate with each other. I also understand how my husband's different strengths (we are SO opposite) are actually valuable assets to our life together, rather than "annoying traits" as I had self-centeredly regarded them. This is a very, very helpful book!
Now Discover Your Strengths May 16, 2007
I have been using the Clifton StrengthFinder Assessment tool in my business as a life coach for the past several years. The results of the assessment provide clear insight into the user's innate talent themes, which provides insight to understand themselves and others better. This book is the most comprehensive in educating the user on their talent themes. It is a great reference tool as others join the paradigm shift of becoming strength-based in their corporate culture and everyday life. The section on managing people with "this" strength (34 total) is invaluable for anyone who wants to maximize their own talent themes as well as those they manage. Many churches, higher education institutions, as well as corporations are recognizing the value of becoming strength-focused organizations and communities through this easily accessible assessment tool.

Great Pairing Amazon! May 4, 2007
I bought Now Discover Your Strengths along with the recommended book, The Personality Code. These books are such a great match! With The Personality Code, I discovered my tendencies associated with my personality type, including my strengths (based upon my lifelong preferences) and how to avoid my weaknesses. Now Discover Your Strengths gave me an in depth look at the specific skills I'm good at. And both books have an online test that tells you what you really are, instead of guessing!
