Reviews - What do customers think about Advanced Spanish Grammar: A Self-Teaching Guide (Wiley Self-Teaching Guides)?
Fantastic resource for intermediate+ Feb 13, 2008
Spanish is my second language, and I achieved a near-native level of fluency while studying in Spain. I used Spanish regularly in college, but after being away from regular use of the language for nearly 5 years, I needed a quick review. This book is fantastic-- great layout, uncomplicated exercises and all answers included. However, I do think they should fire thier editors because I found several errors (1-2 per lesson) in the answers section-- and not little things like gender or number, but answer that were just not logical for the question. Still a great resource for intermediate and higher. Would NOT recommend for beginners.
Overall, A Great Book! Jan 31, 2008
I've been studying Spanish on and off for about 20 years, and this is definitely one of the better books I've consulted. I tend to absorb things better when I learn the reasons behind something, and this book FINALLY clarified for me a number of grammar rules that I'd learned in Spanish classes and other books that never fully sunk in because they didn't explain enough about those rules. And the fact that most of the text is written in Spanish is extremely helpful!
My one gripe with the book is that I noticed a number of typos in the answers sections for the activities and self-tests. If you have an intermediate knowledge of Spanish, these shouldn't be too much of a problem or a hindrance, but they can still be frustrating. On the whole, though, this book will help you improve your Spanish a great deal!
Next step in learning Spanish Aug 27, 2007
I am a retired 67 year old man with the idea that I might be able to learn Spanish without taking a formal course. Prado's intro book, "Practical Spanish Grammar", was a very helpful beginning and this book is a very good next step. His advanced book rehashes much of the material of the first book, such as verb conjugations and some of the same vocabulary, which re-enforces what you hope you learned originally. However, the instructional material and the instructions to each set of exercises are in Spanish. When I first got into this book I was pleased that I could progress without the English instructions of the first book. As does the first book, this book has a variety of exercises and quizzes. A student of Spanish would find these two books helpful additions to a formal course textbook or as a review of past Spanish classes.
Fabulous! Dec 14, 2006
I am so glad I bought this book. After reading the one negative review I almost didn't. Although I own the Ultimate Spanish Review and Practice book and find it helpful as a reference, this book is superior as a workbook. Yes, it does start with the basic points but then it covers in great detail the various exceptions. There is adequate repetition to practice and learn. I try and complete 1-2 pages per day. I am very advanced in Spanish but I still find this book very valuable. I highly recommend this book as a workbook.

I checked this book out of the library and once I started it, I knew I had to buy it. It has been so helpful and workable for a beginner spanish student, and everything is explained in an easy to understand manner, even though the explanations are in spanish. I know that sounds crazy, but it really is easy to follow.
