Item description for Natural Born Man: The Life of Jack Johnson by Marc Shapiro...
Hawaii's own Grammy-nominated musician was carving out a growing reputation as a professional surfer when an accident left him too injured to compete at the highest level. Jack Johnson switched to making surf movies but gradually found his voice as a singer-songwriter.
Initially a cult favorite among surfers, he has now crossed over to the mainstream, acclaimed as a "Dylan for the twenty-first century." His third album, 2005's In Between Dreams, sold over two million copies worldwide and continues to ride high in album charts, and he has just picked up a BRIT Award for International Breakthrough Act.
Acclaimed George Harrison biographer Marc Shapiro has conducted hours of new interviews with those who knew Johnson both as a surfer and a musician, to produce a compelling portrait of one of rock's most original new stars.

Like the subject more than the author, Sep 12, 2008
I enjoyed learning more about Jack Johnson. I would have enjoyed it more if Marc Shapiro had actually spoke to Jack Johnson. I thought I would find this book a quick read, I was wrong.
Heartfelt, success story Apr 20, 2008
This book is a well written biography that focuses on Jack Johnson's true loves, the ocean, his wife and family, and his music. Its a great success story of the "nice" guy that has become a great musician, husband, and father.
Great Beach Read Apr 11, 2008
I am a HUGE Jack Johnson fan, and it was great to find a book about him (I read it sitting on the beach in Florida). He has such an interesting upbringing and look on life. Jack definitely doesn't let the fame go to his head and really enjoys the simple joys of his life. If you are any bit of a Jack fan, I highly suggest this book. It is really cool to find out where his songs originated and what events inspired the lyrics. I can't wait for his upcoming tour!
Nice to have a book available! Mar 16, 2008
Didn't know there was a book about JJ...was excited to discover it! It was good to learn more about him and his life. Wish it would have had a personal connection...don't think the author has ever met him or interviewed him. Overall though, it was a good read.
No one has a better life than Jack Johnson! Mar 4, 2008
While it's early for someone his age to have a bio come out, it's a great easy read, like his music. Gives a picture of a very lucky guy who gets it.
