Register your artisan biography and upload your photo! Manuel Belgrano (1770-1820). Argentina. Era criollo de padre italiano, oriundo de Oneglia, en Liguria. Su madre era Mar a Josefa Gonz lez Casero. Entre 1786 y 1793 estudi Derecho en las universidades de Salamanca y Valladolid, y se gradu con medalla de oro a los dieciocho a os. Entre 1794 y 1810 regres al R o de la Plata y ejerci como Secretario del Consulado de Comercio de Buenos Aires. Por entonces fund la Escuela de N utica y la Academia de Geometr a y Dibujo. Belgrano se opuso a las invasiones brit nicas y combati con el grado de capit n, en la defensa de la zona del Riachuelo (1806). Tras estos sucesos Belgrano inici su actividad a favor de la independencia nacional. Fue uno de los principales dirigentes de la insurrecci n de 1810 y form parte de la Junta que se constituy en Buenos Aires. Fue el creador de la bandera argentina. A partir de la Segunda expedici n al Alto Per al mando del Ej rcito del Norte, lider el xodo juje o. Venci en las batallas de Tucum n (1812) y Salta (1813), que preservaron la independencia argentina al contener la contraofensiva realista lanzada desde el norte;pero fue derrotado en su intento de proseguir su avance en el Alto Per (1813). Entre 1814-1815 viaj a Europa para negociar el reconocimiento de la independencia ante las potencias europeas. Y durante los ltimos a os de su vida combati al frente del Ej rcito del Norte. Belgrano muri el 20 de junio de 1820;sumido en la pobreza.
