More About John MacArthur
John MacArthur is pastor-teacher of Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California, as well as author, conference speaker, president of The Master's College and featured teacher with Grace to You, an international radio broadcast. His more than six dozen books have sold millions of copies worldwide and include more than two dozen volumes of The MacArthur New Testament Commentary series.
The son of Jack MacArthur and fifth cousin of U.S. General Douglas MacArthur, John MacArthur attended Bob Jones University before transferring to Los Angeles Pacific College (now Azusa Pacific University). He later obtained his Masters of Divinity from Biola University's Talbot Theological Seminary, in La Mirada, California. He graduated with honors. From 1964 to 1966, he served as an associate pastor at Calvary Bible Church, in Burbank, California and, from 1966 to 1969, as a faculty representative for Talbot Theological Seminary. Then, in 1969, he became the third pastor in the then-short history of the nondenominational Grace Community Church of Sun Valley, California.
His daily radio program, Grace to You, which is now broadcast throughout much of the world, began as an audio recording ministry to provide cassettes of his sermons to listeners. They were first broadcast in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1977.
In 1985, MacArthur became the president of The Master's College (formerly Los Angeles Baptist College), an accredited, four-year, liberal arts Christian college; and, in 1986, he founded The Master's Seminary. MacArthur also received an honorary doctorate from Talbot Theological Seminary[ and an honorary doctorate from Grace Graduate School.
Nearly 43 years after beginning in the pulpit of Grace Community, MacArthur completed one his own life goals of preaching through the entire New Testament on June 5, 2011, at the end of his projected target window, stated the previous January, to finish "some time in the summer." During the same interview, MacArthur projected he would complete his commentary series within another five years, some 35 years after beginning.
MacArthur is married to Patricia and they have four children and fifteen grandchildren.

good book Feb 19, 2007
I have enjoyed the MacArthur commentaries I have purchased in the past. I find them accurately in touch with the Word and easy to comprehend. Purchase was good and delivery on time.
THE BEST! Nov 25, 2005
THE BEST. Excellent. I highly recommend. As with all of Dr. John Macarthur's works, this is packed with life changing Biblical TRUTHS, wisdom and sound doctrine.
Was not entirely satisfied Feb 20, 2005
To be honest I had high hopes for this volume, for I have great respect for MacArthur as a Biblical expositor. But with this volume I was quite disappointed. He seemed to me to be too simplistice and not dealing with many of the literal issues in the text. However it's a good read and I gained a lot from reading it.
One of the best available Feb 25, 2004
A detailed expository style commentary, the "MacArthur New Testament Commentary: 2 Corinthians" is one of the best modern commentaries available. Some of the features that put it into this category include an excellent overview of the prevailing cultural and political situation as well as historical factors affecting the text, as well as a detailed examination of how the text applies to the reader today. I particularly liked the fact that John MacArthur does an excellent job of providing material that is instructive and interesting for the serious Bible student while still written in a way that the average person can still understand. This is a very difficult tightrope to walk effectively and MacArthur does it brilliantly. The main portion of the commentary examines the book of Second Corinthians pretty much verse by verse. When appropriate he may take a more overall viewpoint as he delves into a theological truth that applies and at other times he may delve even deeper into an examination of a single pivotal word. This ability to get to the detail without losing the overall picture makes it a remarkable book.
Second Corinthians is one of the more interesting books and yet one of the least studied ones in the New Testament. It stands strong as a testament to our current world situation. Corinth was an area of great political power, a growing economy, and great commercial power. It stood strong as a beacon to others to come there and try to get their share of the bountiful riches of Corinth. However, with all of this came loose morals, false teachers, and others that would undermine the society. Does all of this sound familiar? It should. A study of the problems of Corinth and Paul's response to them is a study of America today. The "MacArthur New Testament Commentary: 2 Corinthians" is a study of dealing with a problematic church and is a highly recommended read.
John MacArthur does it again! Dec 13, 2003
John MacArthur is deservedly one of the most important preachers in the USA today, and Corinthians is one of the most relevant Pauline Epistles to life in a normal everyday church. This amazing combination - great author, great Biblical book, comes together in this commentary. If you want to know how your church ought to be biblically - ie not according to whatever the latest fad might be - then this is exactly the kind of book that your pastor and all the pastoral team ought to be reading. Christmas is coming - make sure that your pastor gets a copy from you soon! Christopher Catherwood, author of CHRISTIANS MUSLIMS AND ISLAMIC RAGE (Zondervan, 2003)
