"Seeking His Mind, " the first title in the new series A Voice from the Monastery, is a compilation of forty meditations on the words of Christ by one of the foremost spiritual writers of our time: M. Basil Pennington. Ideal for Lent, this book will serve as a model for readers to experience their own lectio, a Christian path to transformation of consciousness and life.

Publishers Description
A Hindu ashram. A Buddhist meditation center. A Cistercian monastery. Today, thousands of people, hungry to live more balanced and spiritually centered lives, flock to these sources of ancient wisdom. According to M. Basil Pennington, one of the spiritual masters of our age, seekers who visit his monastery want to know the Christian method of transformation. He replies that it is lectio divina--and ancient practice of sacred reading. As Pennington explains, "If each day a word of the Lord can truly come alive for us and can form our mind and heart, we will have that mind of Christ."
This Book presents forty Scripture passages from the life of Christ, paired with a compelling meditation by Basil Pennington. By sharing the fruits of his own lectio, Pennington provids an illuminating daily guide to "seeking his mind."

Reviews - What do customers think about Seeking His Mind: 40 Meetings with Christ (Voices from the Monastery)?

The Voice  Oct 10, 2005
In "Seeking His Mind", M. Basil Pennington brings Christians to the concept of lectio. More than just reading the Bible, lectio is absorbing the word of God through numerous means. We are to listen for the voice of God in our hearts, our neighbors, and other interactions with society. Through this, we will grow in our relationship to God.

Pennington has selected 40 entries in scripture for reflection which are concise but enlightening reads. I was surprised to note that Pennington even managed to inject humor into various points that give a new light to scripture as a Sunday sermon often does. Taking each story separately, the reader will enjoy the greatest benefit. The reader will need time to reflect on what he/she has read.

In the same breath, the author also encourages lectio through reading other Christian books. He is not trying to hawk his book, just foster the spiritual development of others. This is a great little book.
