Item description for Yellowstone Rising by Lynne Bama...
In Yellowstone Rising award winning poet and photographer Lynne Bama addresses the legend, landscape and legacy of the world's first National Park. Yellowstone is many things to many people whether through memories of time spent within its pristine and somewhat otherworldly landscapes or through the thousands of images that continue to inspire curiosity, speculation and dreams. Yellowstone is a unique environment, for centuries a source of mythology and wonder to the native peoples who first came upon its strange and magical features, to the millions of tourists who explore its domain, and to the scientists who continue to probe its mysteries. Through the words of this poet and the lens of her camera Yellowstone's many and varied aspects are woven together into a tale of the past, present and future of a place unlike any other.

See Yellowstone In a New Way Apr 19, 2008
If you have visited Yellowstone, plan to visit Yellowstone, or just love the natural environment, then Yellowstone Rising is a book for you. If you love poetry, or you simply enjoy descriptive writing, then this is the book for you. Having said that, I have to say I have never been much of a poetry fan. My only exposure to poetry was in high school, and it was based around rhyming poetry. I didn't enjoy reading it, and I hated writing it. However, I live in the Yellowstone area, and Lynne Bama is an award winning writer and photographer from nearby Wapiti, Wyoming, so I anticipated a different experience with this book. And I was right, the poetry in this book is nothing like the drudgery I was forced to go through in high school. Forget about rhymes, that is not the style of Lynne Bama's work. Her writing is pure beauty, creating pictures in your mind, bringing new ideas and understanding to a place that is loved by many. Leading you through such topics as the beginning of Yellowstone, winter, tales of early explorers, fire, and wildlife, her words will allow you to experience Yellowstone, whether you have never been to the park, or have visited it often. This is not a book to rush through, rather this is a book to savor. I read one or two poems from this book each day, so that I could enjoy each, and let the essence of each poem be completely absorbed and appreciated. So let Lynne Bama take you on a wonderful journey through Yellowstone's history both the past and present, a park that for me is one of the most beautiful and unique places on earth. This is a wonderful book to keep by your bedside, or place in an area where you can take a few quiet minutes out of your day, to just relax and enjoy this wonderful trip through Yellowstone.
