This is a MUST READ book for any one that knows God has called them to work among First Nations people on any reservation. I only intended to read a few chapters when I started but I couldn't put it down until I was finished. I found myself crying through their difficult times and shouting when a victory would come. Because my wife and I have a call on our lives to work among the Navajo, I was touched deep, deep, deep in my heart for these missionaries and for the Navajo. My wife and I have taught at a camp meeting on the Navajo Reservation in New Mexico the past two summers. This book has stirred me to pray more and seek the wisdom of God more in developing a ministry to the Navajo. It is not a book that I will read only once but rather over and over and over. I must say a hugh THANK YOU to Lynn Cartwright for telling the story of the beginnings of her's and her husband's and children's ministry to the Navajo.

It is a refreshing and inspirational account that explores the fears, frustrations and doubts, as well as the rewards and joys of putting your life in God's hands. It reminded me of the historical novel series, "The Work and the Glory", as people struggle to follow God; but the events described in this book are happening today to people residing in the Four Corners area of the United States. It is full of events and insights that touch both your heart and mind and help you through the trials and tribulations of daily living. The unspoken sharing between peoples of totally foreign cultures and backgrounds when Chee, the 90 year-old Zuni grandfather who spoke no English, had never been to school, and had married into the Navajo tribe, paused from his chores to witness the morning mist in the mountains. At the same time, a short distance away, Lynn, the suburban easterner who had invaded his world high in the Arizona mountains - a woman who did not know how to cook over an open fire, who got huge blisters carrying water or chopping firewood, a woman who cried at perfectly natural things like birthing a baby also paused in her morning chores to watch, and then felt Chee's reaching out to her, "So now there is no wide grin, not even an almost smile, but a steady gaze in my direction and a half nod that says, "I'm glad you saw it too."" Or when Tom Begay used his experiences in Vietnam to emphasize the importance and impact of the words we speak each day. Or when four year-old Larissa helped her family realize that Thanksgiving doesn't come from the things you think you must have but by seeing the things that you didn't realize you do have.
It is a story of frustration as Lynn prays, "I don't like this Lord. I know I prayed for understanding but couldn't you give it to me in some other way?" It is a story of wonder that I want to share with others and I think you will also.

This is a beautiful story about a brave few who beat the odds to help a people learn about God. It is a great story.
