Item description for Michelangelo by Ludwig Goldscheider & Michelangelo Buonarroti...

First published in 1953, this book remains a classic of the literature on Michelangelo. It continues to be the only volume that contains illustrations of all his paintings, sculpture and architecture. The book is designed to serve both the student and the art lover: the fine quality reproductions emphatically illustrate Michelangelo's genius, while the text surveys the opinions of the leading Michelangelo scholars and provides a commentary with bibliographical notes. The exhaustive selection of plates devoted to the paintings of the Sistine Chapel provides an invaluable record of their condition before the recent controversial cleaning, while ten of the colour plates show some of the paintings in their restored state.

Reviews - What do customers think about Michelangelo?

Exellent Book to Study Sculptures!  Apr 20, 2008
This Book is a good value for sculptors and modelers for studying M's works. Each plate has a short description of each work. This book is a valuable reference to all artists in fine art and digital art.

Although the images are B&W it is a must have!!
Amazing Photography  Jan 13, 2007
This is an amazing book. The images are huge and extremly detailed. I am a novice sculptor so for me the close up shots of his work are an enormous benifit to my work.
Fabulous Detail  Dec 27, 2006
I love this book. It is one of my favorites. For a long time I had been looking for a book on Michelangelo that showed some nice closeups and detail of some of his sculpture work. This book has that. It would add nicely to the collection of any artist interested in Michelango.
comprehensive, but  May 29, 2003
..most of the plates are in black and white and not of a very high definition. i also wished for more detail plates of the major works.
still, though, a decent value for the price.
Photos galore!  Apr 19, 2001
This is an excellent resource if you are looking for a comprehensive collection of photos of Michelangelo's works. Text is minimal but concise; the main focus is on the works themselves on page after page of gorgeous black and white photos. The only real drawback is that I would have liked to have seen more color plates of his paintings; there are only a few, focusing on the Sistine Chapel paintings, with close-up details shown in black and white photos.
