Reviews - What do customers think about Beyond Tzaaden?

I really wanted to like this book more than a 3.  Nov 19, 2004
First off, here is the book's summary:

The year is 2030 and world-renowned physicist Dr. Zell Heimmermann has perfected a breakthrough in space propulsion. Now, on to my review. I promised myself when I began writing reviews of Christian fiction that I would be honest, so here goes:

This novel is written in two sections. The author thanks a particular individual for his editing, but I believe that person only edited the second half of the novel. It was decent. The first half had many instances of poor grammar, improper separation or improper jamming together of concepts within the paragraphs, and was also confusing at points. Worse than that was the way some of the characters were presented. Instead of exposing the deeper aspects of their character through dialogue or their actions, most were just thrown at the reader abruptly with descriptions of those deeper character traits. I can understand this to a degree, especially considering the number of characters, but it was done to the extreme and the early presentation of the story did not flow well at all. I decided to stick with the book anyway. Upon reaching the second half of the novel, the grammar, flow of the story, and even the imaginative concepts stepped up a level or two. I am guessing that the first half was written a good while before the second half, or the editor did a really good job of refining the second half.

Another point is that this book is billed as a Christian novel and it does have a strong Christian theme to it. It seemed that early in the novel the author avoided using profanity, yet later in the book it seems the author abandoned this, as he has several curse words here and there. Just an FYI for those offended by such.

In summation, I would have to give the first half of the novel about a two, but the second half would rate about a four. Therefore the average would be a three overall. I think if the first half were reworked by the author and edited as well as the second half, then the novel would rate a four, especially if the profanities were represented by @#$%, or just inferred, considering the Christian market.

In the end, I found the story, overall, to be a good one, thus the title of my review. This book, especially the first half, just needs more attention. If you can make it through the first part, the story within the second half will be worth the effort.
